Musings from the Bar Stools

Fire clint, because this post is retarded.

What happened to the 6th inning rule or whatever you reactionaries wanted in place for Bush?

That was the PERFECT time to pitch Gagne. Yost clearly is not going to use Gagne in a close game for a few days, so pitch him now. He was smart about it too, by making him pitch 2 innings and not burn more pitchers.

This fire Yost stuff is getting stale, especially after they win 3 of 4 from the Cardinals.

So what you are saying is that as long as the Brewers are winning despite Ned, it is ok to keep Ned as the Manager.

This team is more than just Gagne. And with 7 very tough games in front of them, they need to stretch out the starters as much as possible.

Gagne could have very easily worked on his mechanics in the 8th & possibly the 9th if yost wanted him to get two innings of work.

No, Ned is a bad manager no matter what happens, hell, bad managers often win a lot of games despite their meddling. However, I hate firing managers/coaches in the middle of a season and am only for it if the team needs a wake up call. it appears there is a chance they have woken themselves up. Either way, Yost bought himself some time so reaching for reasons to fire him is tiring.

I think the idea was, mentally, to keep Gagne out of the ninth inning and to keep him from being the last guy in the game. For whatever reason, that was the thinking. Plus, correct me if I am wrong, but aren't you a hugely vocal proponent of the Bush 6 inning rule?

While I like the Bush 6 inning rule, it is a rule I believe that it is only a rule in normal (close) games. Yesterday was the exception of the rule.

so in other words, the rule is only a rule up when it suits you?

Actually, I thought it was a 6-inning/100-pitch rule, and Bush was not going to go through the 7th before he hit 100.

The mistake was trotting Gagne out there for a second inning.

That is clearly wrong steve. Where Clint is right is that the Brewers don't have a day off for a couple weeks, so you can't overuse your bullpen in blowouts. Letting him pitch 2 innings was smart.

Depends on what your goal is. If your goal is saving the pen, then two innings is fine. If your goal is to get your $10 million closer's head screwed back on straight so that he actually does what he's being paid for down the stretch, then they should have let him sit on that three up, three down inning.

I think both were accomplished rather effectively. He went out and pitched "straight" in the 7th. In the 8th, he pitched a bit more experimental, throwing three sliders I believe and working more on locating his fastball.

I still can't fathom the hang up on his contract.

Anyone think that taking Bush out in the 6th might be good for his confidence. End on a solid note, get his first W...Like it or not, they're going to need him to step up, and if it gives him some more confidence going into his next start I think it's a great move at this point.

Lets get off this Fire Yost crap. He is not going anywhere soon, so deal with it or don't watch the Brewers anymore. You can question his calls that is natural for a baseball fan to question his manager, but get off calling for his head for everything you disagree with.

That's a new version of "love it or leave it!!!"

Ya either luv Yost er git out!

Fuck Ned Yost

fuck Braun. 4 solo home runs...what a loser.

don't worry too much Chris, I just got word that a Branyan platoon is not even on the consideration radar of the Brewers "brain" trust.

Maybe my new job will be calling for Melvin's head?

Just to make sure I am following you ESK you are saying that Branyan is as good of a player as Braun.

That is the comparison you are making

Funny I never said anything about Braun

Sorry I have not been around more today I am in the middle of a massive home repair that mushroomed on me today.

It ain't my hang up. It is the hang up of the guy who gave him the contract. I'm fine with him just being a really expensive bullpen guy that they use whereever, whenever. But I'm not the one who has to justify $10 million to an owner. Especially a $10 million short reliever who doesn't pitch in the 9th. Whose numbers could be matched by someone in AAA. I'm just sayin.

And you say "experimented", while I say "struggled". Let's call the whole thing off.

no, i'm saying solo home runs are actually positive outcomes. It wasn't a player comparison, it was an outcome comparison.

What's the home repair?

putting a new roof on half of my kitchen roof new decking ice and water shield and shingles I am fucking exhausted at the moment.
