Musings from the Bar Stools

I see Favre ending up starting in Green Bay. I don't see a trade working itself out nor do I see the Packers releasing Favre. If Favre really wants to stay in the league, which in itself is questionable, then I see him starting out as the "backup" and then eventually becoming the starter.

If Thompson has brains, see Justin Harrel, then he'll let his quarterbacks compete and pick the best one.

channel 4 is reporting that Charles Woodson picked off Rodgers in practice and ran off the field yelling "Bring Brett Back"

I'll tell you this; if the Packers play this more-or-less straight, but Rodgers doesn't clearly outplay Favre in the preseason and "wins" the starting job anyway, Thompson and McCarthy will be wishing they had given Favre his outright release.

The likelyhood that Favre will perform at least as well as Rodgers in preseason is why I suspect that, if they have to keep Favre to keep him away from Minnesota, they'll try to dump him on something like IR by Saturday.

It gets more interesting, now Mark Murphy has boarded a plane to beg Favre to stay home...

I laugh at all the people who say Favre is "holding the Packers hostage".

Isn't it the other way around? The Packers don't want to release him, can't trade him and don't want him on their team for some odd reason.

The Packers are holding Brett Favre hostage.

It's a joke that Murphy is flying down to Mississippi. Has he ever met Favre before? What happened to the "Ted Thompson handles the football side of things" hyperbole he stated?

This is just ridiculous.

The Packers look less and less sympathetic as they waffle about what to do. The guy is already on the team and you're already F ing paying him. Let the man fight for a job like anybody else.

Favre could actually screw the pooch compared to Rodgers. Or he could look good enough to Start again. Either way the Packers will look like rational actors. Which is better than the bewildered deer on I-94 look.

"Gee, bright lights are headed toward me at a high rate of speed. I bet if i just stand here i'll get a real good look at it."
