Gravatar dear Gabrielle, i so much appreciate your blog and esp. the word of the day. i wish that i could have an indonesian person to talk to me once a week or so. my local class has been suspended until next year. the video function sounds very exciting. whatever happens i do hope that you keep your blog going in some way if possible. sincerely, with thanks, Fran

Gravatar I vote for more everyday language. Even a native speaker like me sometimes finds it difficult to understand all the new things they come up with these days since I don't really speak Indonesian here.

Gravatar Hey i think it's great that you made this blog

Keep doing it, great job

Gravatar Hi Gabrielle, I am glad I found your website. Thanks. I just started to learn indonesian last week. I have learnt a lot since then. I mostly need to practice my listening. When my indonesian friends speak I cannot really understand them because they speak really fast. Perhaps more listening would help me. If you have any mp3's or lectures where indonesian's are speaking naturally that would go a long way to further my studies. Thanks.

Gravatar Thanks everyone for your comments. It sounds like we will have a much better learning experience, and I encourage your continued participation in the process!

I'll be posting more news soon.

Salam

Gravatar terima kashih! The entire course and word a day is such a great plan... I've got various phrasebooks and kamus kamus, as well as the teach yourself indoneisan course, and this approach works in the sekidit sedikit lama lama fashion. Was able to slide through the "YOU -- SPEAK INDONESIA!" request from my wifes family, and managed to put forth an ernest effort.

I think for those of you dengan taman indonesia, belajar berbicara "PLEASE CAN YOU SAY THAT AGAIN SLOWER?" will help you understand. I don't think there is any secret to understanding FAST speaking, but to first understand and hear slow deliberate speaking.

WIll look forward to the innovations to come.

I have not tired yet of these studies in about 8 months now.

Gravatar Thanks for the positive comments, and YES! Your suggestion to all learners who have regular contact with native Indonesian speakers to learn how to ask them to slow down is a good one!

Here's how you can make that request:
"Tolong ulangi pelan-pelan."
Please repeat slowly.

Gravatar I am posting an unrelated question here because when I try to do it through the Ask a Question function, it wants to hook into my non-existent email program.

My question is, I have known several Indonesian people who repeat their statements in conversation. Even though they say something perfectly clearly, they repeat the same sentence or idea a 2nd and often a 3rd time.

Is this a cultural conversation trait, in your view?

Thanks!

Delphine

Gravatar Hello:
I would really appreciate a breakdown of the use of affixes...
the prefix and suffix and those that wrap themselves around the basic word as well --- Now, I just put 'men' or 'meng' before everything although I know it's wrong

Gravatar Hai Gabrielle !! Im writing to you because of a little problem I have. I began, like about 6 months ago, with an indonesian course taken from www.hello-indonesia.com , in which every day i received a particular indonesian word in my e-mail box. Each word had its own definition, and an example (a sentence) in which that word was taking part.

The problem is that I am no longer receiving that emails, and I don't know why, because I didn't unsuscribe myself.

I hope you can help me soon, as I keep wanting the indonesian course. Congratulations for your site, its just great !

Regards from Argentina

Gravatar hi gabrielle hello indo e-course has been very helpful to me, and its good that you have this spot , I've been trying to learn the language since before my husband is Indonesian too.. thanks keep it up I am hoping to be able to speak this language later on..terimakasih!

Gravatar Thanks for all the help. There seems to be plenty of resources for learning formal Indonesian on the net, but very few for learning the slang. Almost all of my interaction with Indonesian speakers is in slang. Makasi!

Gravatar Hi gabrielle and everyones,
I was really surprised knowing foreigns like you giving Indonesia lesson language like this. To my second surprised, there were also so many people want to learn it.
Actually, in my country Indonesia, I have a project dealing with Indonesia learning. I offer to many foreigns who want to learn this language for free. But I never send my offer on line, this is my first one.
So, for the one who wants to learn more about Indonesia language off line can contact me at andifirmansah@yahoo.com. Just for the information I live in Mojokerto.

Thank you gabrielle

Gravatar Hai Gabrielle!

Contohnya:
- Kata "Ba-Pak", dia mengucapkan "PaPak".
- Kata "Ka-Get", dia mengucapkan "ka-kget"
- Kata "Tu-Duh", dia mengucapkan "Du-duh"

Atas jawabannya saya ucapkan terima kasih.

PS: Saya sedang membuat blog tentang pelajaran Bahasa untuk penutur asing. Isinya tentang materi pelajaran serta latihan. Penguasaan bahasa yang saya berikan meliputi pengenalan abjad dan tulisan, pemerolehan kosa kata, pemahaman bacaan, pelafalan bahasa, pemahaman pendengaran, menulis, tata bahasa, makna dan gaya bahasa.
