What's baffled me about this controversy is the supposed "tradition" that ex-presidents don't and shouldn't offer critiques of their successors. Aside from the fact that this tradition is only supposed to apply to Democratic ex-presidents, it makes no sense. Under what kind of crazy system would the people most qualified, with the most informed perspective, to pass judgment on the performance of a sitting president be barred from doing so?
