Olbermann quoted the text of Colbert's email and it didn't sound like it was in character at all. O said it was sent when the Gov. was merely missing and still assumed to actually be on the AT, hence Colbert's reference to it being an overblown story. It sounded pretty sincere to me.

are we certain that Colbert hasn't become this character?
I mean, I became my character - pretty sure you became yours too...
Does Colbert truly even exist anymore? Would anyone notice if he broke character?
