I would agree that much of Dubya's motivation stemmed from a desire to do better than his father. But I would not agree that his decision to invade Iraq came about because he was 'influenced by several of his advisers'.
Bush had decided to invade Iraq even before he was elected. From the moment he was sworn in as President, Saddam's days were numbered.
In 1999, (before he was even elected, and well before 9/11), in an interview with biographer Mickey Herskowitz, Dubya said, "My father had all this political capital built up when he drove the Iraqis out of Kuwait and he wasted it."
Dubya went on, "If I have a chance to invade…, if I had that much capital, I'm not going to waste it".
To put it another way, he saw invading Iraq as a good career move.
