Gravatar The greatness of any leader is only in direct proportion of his (or her) ability to elicit greatness in the most ordinary of the citizenry, and his dedication to ideal higher than himself. Those qualities are not as rare as we might think - it's only the opportunities to show just how great we all could be, given the chance, is being limited by venal, small-minded, greedy and ultimately cowardly men.

For the moment. Only for the moment...

Gravatar If Ike were running for President today, he'd be swiftboated and he'd lose.

Hey Nate, the girls in Mindanao say "Hi"!

Gravatar Hey Nate, the girls in Mindanao say "Hi"! -Jonsey J. Jones

"The Girls of Mindanao"? I'm intrigued. Not surprising since I'm a single guy and I love all things Pinay! Shame there was no email adress attached so I could at least make a few new penpals!

Aloha to "The Girls of Mindanao" anyways!

Gravatar Hey Nate, Nonny!

Jonsey - I agree with you on the swiftboating, but a man like Ike would never roll over and hide like Kerry did. He would punch them square in the face every time they tried that shit. The atmosphere in '06 is much different than '04 for the Democrats, I think he'd have a better than average shot at winning.

Thanks again, Nate. It feels good to be back on the blogs!

Gravatar What a great photo!

Behind his eyes lay a brain.

Put a photo of Bush
Side by side of Eisenhower
And what a difference
A brain makes of power!

Gravatar I love the listing of these quotes! I've read many of them separately, but put them together and you see the profile of a great man. There is one thing that bothers me though...look at the words of George W. He says many things that in 50 years will look like he too despised war. Speaking for the history books.

Gravatar Ike,of course, is the President who sicced Kermit Roosevelt and the CIA on President Mogideh of Iran at the behest of BP, after they were turned down by Truman the year before. That worked out so well that he did the same thing in Guatemala, deposing the elected government for daring to seize-and pay for-the unused land held by United Fruit. So he had more than a crystal ball going for him:he was able to project his own actions out into the future and see that other presidents would be tempted to do the same things. Do as I say, and not as I do,indeed.

Gravatar Great post!

Ike and Teddy Roosevelt are the only 2 republican presidents in the 20th century worth anything!

Gravatar Too bad President Bush didn't pay attention to President Eisenhower's admonition about preventive war. But, then, he probably never heard of it.

Gravatar The days of yesteryear are gone. Doesn't seem that anyone can take a lead and convince the good ole USA that killing people is not a way of life.

Gravatar Great post. I really appreciate the quotes.

... and the video of course.

Gravatar Awesome words from a fellow Kansan.

Also, is there a typo in the "How far you can go without destroying from within what you are trying to defend from without?"

Should it be "How far can you go"?

Gravatar Good catch Corey. Thanks!

Gravatar Just a wonderful post. It's sad that these are from a time 50+ years ago and what have we learned?

Gravatar I sent that to a republican friend and he said he didnt believe it. Can you possibly give me the source material for the quotes so I can take my foot out of my mouth.

Gravatar The Apathetic Militant - Here's a nice link to a ton of Ike quotes.

http://www.brainyquote.com/ quote...eisenhower.html

Send that link to your friend, let him try and dispute it. He can't. Let the wingnut assholes try and swiftboat the Fighting Dems. Mehlman and Rove couldn't carry Ike's jockstrap....

Gravatar Whoops. I was wrong. The quote is incomplete. It should be: "The problem in defense is how far you can go without destroying from within what you are trying to defend from without. "

Gravatar UFL - A couple of important notes and observations for you.

First, I am a big fan of Crooks & Liars and I admire John Amato's work greatly. C&L links to my blog on occasion and I'm grateful every time. I have even provided technical site assistance to C&L and in the past some site moderation work as well.

I have personally met RR and find her to be charming, kind, understanding and a stalwart believer in justice and fair play. Whatever your personal hangup with her is of course, your business but I have no interest in it and it is not welcome here on my blog.

On a personal note I'll tell you from my own experience that life is too short for stupid, petty little conflicts. Your outlook and your way of confronting your issues is immature and you wind up doing more harm than good at trying change things. It becomes easier to dismiss you out of hand. Just my thoughts on the matter.

As far the other stuff, keep it away from my blog becuase this is a place for real work for real change. Get with that or don't bother coming here because your brand of pettiness is not welcome.

Gravatar Wow Nate coming from you that means so...little.
And yet you came all the way back to this archived post on my blog within days of leaving your previous drive-by turd to check what I had to say. Glad I mean so little to you since you mean nothing to me.

Immature well I guess I can be when dealing with pompous asses such as her and now yourself.
Thank you for validating my point about your worthlessness.

Gee are you going to ban me too
Again, you forget yourself. You assume you matter enough to care about. I'm responding to this, your last little ridiculous pre-pubescent rant more out of fun and so anyone who happens to visit this post and read the comments can compare a mountain of a man like Dwight D. Eisenhower to a human tick that feeds off of the anus-meat of dogs like yourself.

You must be one of the site nazis at C&L also!
As I proudly stated in my previous response to you... I HAVE worked for C&L previously and look forward to hopefully doing so again after the election season is over.

Have a good one Nate, good luck with your Blog. I see it's making a huge difference in the world!
Thank You!

By the way it's pretty pathetic when you and others need to beg for donations for you to get to California.
It's comical to see just how much it chaps your pathetic ass that not only am I making a difference but that people like me, un-afraid of stating our convictions and making our identity public can proudly proclaim, "This is who I am... This is what I believe!" are actually making a difference in the world. That we are in fact capable of raising the financial support of our friends and fans even our ideological opponents for assistance in going to fight for what we believe in.

I pity you for the small and pathetic existence your overwhelming cowardice forces you in to.
