Dude...totally what you said. ALl of it.
In this whole 'organic' and 'natural' fad, it is easy to get caught up assuming the wrong things about these products. I have been educating myself on these and yes, you are soooo right. Haha. I go to this little hippie store where they sell only organic and natural stuff, and they have those Newmans O cookies there..All you have to do is read the ingredients and nutrition facts to realize the ugly truth...now granted, still probably 'healthier' for you that hydrogenated oils, but seriously...still fat, still sugar...
I used to only look at Nutrition facts. Now the ingredient list is just as important to me.
Did you know that something only needs to contain organic ingredients to be called 'organic' on the label? how freaking misleading is that? in order to know it's entirely natural or organic, it has to say 100%...
On the nut butters tip - if I must buy some from a chain store I like the natural smuckers, too. BUT...the best nut butters IMO are not mass produced. I get mine in bulk, literally I scoop it out of a 10 gallon tub and pay per ounce...at my little store (which you may remember me bloggging about a while back) they have many to chose from; organic natural smooth no salt added, organic natural smooth with salt added, and both those avail. in chunky too. The only ingredients are: Peanuts. oh and salt, but I don't get that kind. The almond butter there is THE BOMB and also only has almonds as the ingredients. I should send you some. maybe if you decide to come out of retirement and do the monster mash i will bring you some. No but seriously - it's such good stuff.
I think a lot of people don't know the difference between organic and natrual.
Ok wow, maybe I just have just written my own blog.
If you want some of my almond butter from my little shop, let me know. For realz.

oh yeah, and i forgot to mention, i dont' like the maranatha brand either! But i must say after eating my natrual PB for a few years, I recently had a bite of Tim's JIF *GASP* and it was DISGUSTING! I can't believe I grew up eating that shit! I used to like it, but it tasted like plastic to me!! BARF!

Becca you crack me up! and yes I just recently read about the whole organic labeling stuff...eye opening!
Our Kroger's here used to make it's own peanut butter and I would buy that buy the tub...so good! But now, there is no where around here that does that and I do so miss it! As for your Almond butter, if it tastes anything like the crack Tina brought to the Muscle And The City show...omg I seriously don't need any other food ever lol!!! It's probably a good thing I can't get any around here
And while the Monster Mash sounds like some serious fun, there is no way I can put my body through that again...hell it's still wonky from the Arnold. I am seriously not cut out for shows.
Oh and I hear on the the regular pb thing...way too sweet and processed tasting, but something about the super chunky jiff still has a hold on me

Yep I agree! It's like fat free vs. real food. The fat free will still make you FAT! It's all about portion control.
I bought the Maranatha a couple weeks ago because it was on sale. I'm glad I did because it's the longest a jar of PB has lasted in my house. I may buy it again just because I don't want spoonfuls of it every hour like I do Smuckers
I will say this however and it may be in my head but my husband agreed. I had regular apples and organic apples, the organic taste WAY better! Not all waxy and stuff.

Such good points girl. I won't even let myself bring home anything like those cookies you show - or other totally organic natural treats...for me, I still battle the whole deal that eating sweets - especially ALONE on an empty stomach~ creates a monster inside of me and I have not been able to moderate myself. I end up eating way too much. Yes, it's natural and organic but - bottom line (no pun intended LOL) it's TOO MUCH. Too much of anything is TOO MUCH and can equal fat. Great points.
I am A HUGE label reader now more than ever. It's amazing the crap they will sneak into products just so it's glossy or thicker or shelf stable.

Love it!! Hilarious and TRUE!!! Love the simple but true statement that an organic fat ass is still a fat ass!!! Thanks for the great post!
Ok, I have to defend my Maranatha Brand here though. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Maranatha Brand Crunchy Organic Peanut Butter...I don't like the Almond Butter or the No Stir either. And, the crunchy peanut butter ingredients are: 100% Dry Roasted Organic Peanuts, Sea Salt...NO SUGAR! Just have to state that to defend my Maranatha...I did a blog post about how much I love it a few months ago.

Have you tried the natural peanut butter at ALDI? I agree - the regular stuff there isn't good, but now that have "Natural" that contains only peanuts and salt. It's not as good as Smuckers, but it's like $1.79 and a good stand in if I don't feel like going to another store, lol. Plus, while I like it, I don't LOVE it so it's easier to use portion control, LOL.
I also just tried PB2 powdered peanut butter. It's pretty good as an add in so far. Netrition.com seems to have the best price with shipping.

I just had to chime in since I recently had an interview with Aldi. MOST of their products is made by Kraft, Green Giant etc...they just put a different label on it. Kind of like gas. :D

Tori-yeah, my stores here are very limited in their organic brands so my only MaraNatha options are the Almond Butter and the No-stir PB...if I ever see the crunchy organic pb I will be sure and give it a try
Sara-My Aldis here does not have the natural pb...trust me I'm all for some cheap groceries so I'm going to keep my eyes peeled
April-yeah I saw a show on the food network about Aldi's and how most of their brands are made by name brands with just different labels...doesn't make the pb taste any better though lol!

My FAVE PB is Naturally More mmmm....I definitely don't buy that and keep it in the house! It has flax seed in it too! It's pretty cheap and you can get it at Walmart
Must correct my grammar on my last post...MOST of their products are, i'm from Indiana and yes I probably would just say that but I know better LOL!
