Gravatar You know, being a British citizen isn't bad. I like it.

However.

If I ever moved to another country, liked the people, fell in love, made my life there, and had children there, I'd seriously consider becoming a naturalized citizen.

If Britain then engaged in an orgiastic spree of government corruption, a self-confessed 'crazy age' of mismanagement and misappropriation, and put an unelected PM in Number 10, well, I'd have to think even harder about it.

And if when I said as much on my blog, a bunch of right-wingers who imagine themselves to be in the pockets of those corrupt officials- of course, they're not really, but they imagine they'll be rich one day- if that bunch was to insult my parents and call me seriously rude names, well...

...let's just say that I wouldn't be persuaded to say, y'know?

Gravatar Dear Alexa,

Firstly, you used the word 'integrity.' I do not think it means what you think it means (thankyou Inigo Montoya).

Definition via Dictionary.com (that's an American website, you know): "1. Steadfast adherence to a strict moral or ethical code. 2. The state of being unimpaired; soundness. 3. The quality or condition of being whole or undivided; completeness."

In fact, it could be argued that Gia's decision to get British citizenship because of the higher levels of freedom (for now) over here actually falls under that "adherence to a strict moral or ethical code" definition making her a positive role model for the very word itself.

Secondly, you used the word 'you.' Thirteen times. Once, twice in a row, and once, as the first and last words in sentence. I consider this a little excessive.

Thirdly, you should learn to remove the hate for Gia's decision from your own soul first before spitefully commenting about the subject. A wise person once said "It's not good to have so much hate inside your soul. Don't you know it will eat away at you?"

And then you copied that person.

Gravatar Dear Alexa,

Have you stopped to think about all of the American kids who have no hope of ever escaping the poverty of our inner cities? They are forgotten.

Can you tell me how you can justify the slaughter of so many innocent Iraqis as the result of a downright lie on the part of our government? What makes us think that we are so superior to the citizens of the rest of the world that we can simply invade them to satisfy our need for power and oil? If we are such a great and compassionate country, where have we been during the genocide in Africa?

Oh, I taught her very well. Shame on the great United States of America.

Gravatar Your mom sounds like a kook, just like you. Lemme ask you something. Do you and your mom wear the same sized tin-foil hats, or is hers a bit bigger?

Also, and most importantly, you didn't answer the question about your American citizenship. Because if you TRULY hate America, just throw it away while you're in England escaping the oppressiveness *snicker* that you find here. Or better yet, give it to some North Korean guy hoping to escape the sheer tyranny and famine that's in his country. I'm sure he'd appreciate it a bit more. And give your mom's to his wife. Sounds like she's aching to leave too so she can be "a citizen of the world".

Gravatar You GO MOM!

It may also interest you to know a company right here in VA has a proven (90+ % efficiency) hybrid electric/internal combustion engine vs. the 37% efficiency of internal combustion. That would slash our dependance on oil by at least half.
It would also mean;

= ShrubCo. would actually need to find productive work.

= All industries that revolve the automotive industry would shrivel up because this hybrid engine has fewer parts.

= As would the defense industry. . . oops there goes MY job. Which I'd gladly give up given the aforementioned scenario.

On another thinly related note: At the turn of the last century it was predicted the workday would be reduced to a mere 3 hours by the 1960's given the technological advantages cropping up during the industrial revolution.
=?= Does everybody need to work 40 hours a week for us to have the products/services we've grown accustomed to?

=?= Couldn't that same level of productivity/service be achieved by everyone sharing in the work thereby reducing the load carried by each.

=?= Oh that might not be democracy anymore, I may be flirting with socialism. Hmph, w-e-l-l I pay a social security tax so. . . why not the shared workload idea.

The long 'n short of this is, there exists a better way to handle our most accute problem yet it's not being embraced or implemented. Infact that hybrid motor company is having to market their product in India just to stay afloat.

I cannot believe that the current agenda being exercised by ShrubCo. is what George, Thomas, Alexander, Benjamin and the others had in mind. That said, the only resemblence left between what the forefathers had in mind and what we've become, is in name only. You couldn't have "turned your back" on something that doesn't exist (the USA, as it was intended).

I wouldn't consider YOU a turncoat!

I'm far from a kook, but I do have strong feelings about our government and what is happening to the citizens of this country (not to mention the rest of the world). It's interesting that anyone who doesn't share the right-wing agenda is branded a kook these days! Oh well, it happened with Joe McCarthy. I guess it's coming around again.

Gravatar I think you should be damn proud of yourself for speaking your mind! If any other country was engaging in the outrageous political persecution that so many Bush supporters are engaging in in the US, Americans would be calling it human rights violations! I think it's absolutely disgusting that American citizen's are being tormented, threatened and having thier families harrassed simply because they have the nerve to question US policy! I used to think the US was the greatest country in the world! Now I'm not shocked in the least that those who can get out, do get out!

but isn't it just interesting to see what Bush supporters are *really* like when it comes right down to it?

Mr. Sickness probably considers himself to be a Christian as well...

Oh dear.

Political writer Molly Ivins has just published a new book: "Who Let the Dogs In: Incredible Political Animals I Have Known". (She's a Texan, a hunter, a beer drinker - just like the good ol' Texas boys - and a liberal.)

You can dislike the Republican party, Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Hassert, etc. all you want...

And yes, my mom is proud of me. I'm a Republican, after all.

Oh, and you still haven't answered the question about your citizenship.

So ban me if you want, that's just proves I'm right.

Gravatar To answer Dilberta's question, is the fact that making a product is cheaper in India, China, Tawian, etc. The money that the company profits from by having cheaper labor, then can be spread to the consumer of said product. Lemme ask ya this. Would you rather go to Wal-Mart and pay $3 for.... say a pair of socks that were made in Tawian, or $6 for a pair that were made in the US? It's just good economics.

Mom... Not worth an argument? Why not? Aren't there two sides to everything? Why not debate about it?
Oh, and you know you wouldn't be able to handle a debate with Limbaugh or O'Reilly.. who, by the way.. is NOT a conservative, as much as you libs like to think so. Watch his show sometimes. He gives hell to the right too as well as the left. "Not worth an argument" is a losing statement.

Gravatar I answered what I saw last. I didn't see your blasting of "BushCo" above. I had to go through all the psychobabble to find out that you were talking about the hybrid engine, rather than job outsourcing, which I thought was the topic.
So, you're basically in orgamsic delight that this "technological advancement" that's going to "save our environment!" is over in India, rather than the U.S.
Hate to burst your bubble, but it wasn't India that first came up with it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hybrid_car
But I'm not against hybrid vehicles at all. I just want them made safer. Right now, you have a lack of horsepower in them that would make merging on a busy highway a nightmare. Also, most hybrids only get 25 mpg. I'd rather have my Dodge that gets 32 mpg. I'd cost less, even without the $3000 premium on the hybrid.

Other than that, all you're doing in your post is bashing Bush, and bashing capitalism. Tell ya what. We need a few freak libs at our right wing message boards anyways. Why don't you come and try to EXPAND your ideas to us and give us all a good laugh.

Gravatar My new favourite whacko-

What exactly *is* the question about American citizenship? Will I give it up if I get British citizenship? The answer is 'no'. Here is why: I can become a British citizen because I have lived and worked and paid taxes in the UK legally for over half my life AND I am married to a British citizen and have a British child. I am legally entitles to dual citizenship. Deal with it.

I am not thinking of getting British citizenship for protest reasons I am getting British citizenship because to be and travel as an American in Europe and around the world is becoming more and more difficult as everyone is so angry at America.

Think Britain is on your side? Think again. Not even most of the *right-wing* in this country support Bush or his "war" and Blair is on his way out because even his own party doesn't support what he's done. America is a laughing stock here.

In response to the xenophobic laws pertaining to passports that BushCo have introduced, Britain has made it more difficult for the American expats in the UK. For example they are now making you visit the Home Office for and are charging over £150 for a stamp in one's passport that used to be free at the airport. There are people who have been living here for 20-30 years legally as American citizens- not dual nationals- whose lives and homes will be at risk if they don't pay for a stamp. My son is a dual citizen though only has an American passport. I've refused to pay for a stamp for him - he doesn't need one, he's British... so what will they do? Kick him out?

Getting a British passport is a practical decision, one that will make it much easier when traveling. It's not only the UK is making it difficult for Americans to travel... No one likes 'Americans' right now and are only too glad to make their lives difficult.

I love my country dearly, but am shamed by the "President"... It's such an utter tragedy.

I will just point out that the only reason I'd ban you is because I think technically one can describe you as a troll. If you want to actually have a discussion then read and *understand* what people are saying and respond rationally. Opposing viewpoints are certainly welcomed, just not this rabid nonsensical rubbish...

So have a conversation and everything will be fine. I love a debate. Keep on screaming away and I'll pull the plug. Try and mess with me after that and well... I've got all of your details...

Gravatar Of course they're wrong. They still imagine that if they're nice to rich people, some day they'll make them rich too.

Wakey wakey people. It ain't never gonna happen. Ever hear of 'old money'? It gets old one way only- selfish people keeping it to themselves. That's the Bush family, and every Republican voter to boot- selfish, selfish, selfish.

Do something altruistic today. Think about how your actions affect others. If you have a computer, you're one of the richest 1% on Earth. Do you need more material possessions? Or do you need a more just and fair society?

Now think: who is more likely to give you that more just society? Is it the people who have done just fine from the status quo? or is it the people who want to make things better for everyone, and don't care if the ultra-rich have to pay more taxes in order to pay for their reforms?

See, in the real world, money can't be 'created'. Even at the Royal Mint or Federal Reserve, every time you make a new bank note, you reduce the value of every other banknote to pay for the new one. Every time you cut taxes, that money is no longer available. Every time you finance an invasion, those hundreds of billlions are no longer available to pay for the things at home that are so sadly lacking- schools, a fair judiciary, health care for everyone, an energy grid that is reliable and clean, almost anything you can think of.

So think about it. What makes the world a better place?

See, in the real world, money can't be 'created'. Even at the Royal Mint or Federal Reserve, every time you make a new bank note, you reduce the value of every other banknote to pay for the new one. Every time you cut taxes, that money is no longer available. Every time you finance an invasion, those hundreds of billlions are no longer available to pay for the things at home that are so sadly lacking- schools, a fair judiciary, health care for everyone, an energy grid that is reliable and clean, almost anything you can think of.

So think about it. What makes the world a better place?

Gravatar and here's another clue: if a man has a billion dollars, taxing him a few million isn't going to affect his standard of living. If a man has ten thousand dollars, taxing him a few hundred is going to make him unable to feed his family.

Progressive taxes are the answer.

No. But his living expenses are higher. The rich have far more expenses than the average middle class family, thus taxing them more would leave them with less.. well, in a sense.
Look, "progressive" (I call it socialist) taxes do NOT work. Otherwise if you overtax people, why the hell would they want to be succesful in life?
Look, I'm done here.. for now. I'll be back to gloat in November. Have fun with your leftist fantasy land.

Oh, and the invite to RightNation still stands.

Gravatar Sorry, Zeno, I wasn't knocking Christians. You *know* I don't care what people believe... I do, however, have big problems with people who preach hate and intolerance and have no empathy or care for any other person in the world and then 'come out' as Christian...It's the hypocrites I hate...

The problem is that in the States a *large* percentage of the people who support BushCo *do* claim to be Christians. Bush himself claims that God told him to do what he's done. I have *very* big issues with that. You know I'm not religious, but I can't believe that if there was a God that s/he'd be telling that dillweed to go invade another country against the wishes of the world in order for his friends to earn more money...

I kinda think God would be a bit cooler than that.

Thanks for the invite, but if your "debating" "skills" are anything to go by I doubt anything interesting or constructive will come out of me visiting there.

Gravatar ThaSickness says "socialist" like it's a bad thing.

"Socialism" means caring about other people. That's *all* it means. And if you're trying to tell me that a millionaire has the same ability to pay as a $40k-a-year Joe Schmo with three kids- which one of us is in a fantasy land?

I'm not talking about overtaxing people. I'm talking about taxing people in accordance with their ability to pay. The Republicans have repeatedly cut taxes for the super-rich and the money has to come from somewhere.

That 'somewhere' is people like you and me, who are just trying to make ends meet. And failing so often. The money has to come from somewhere. If you cut taxes tot he rich, they don't mysteriously give poor people money by some Reagan pipedream theory.

In short, you might want to learn some economic theory. It's obvious that you haven't understood what's happening around you.

Gravatar No, socialism is making those who work take up the slack for those who don't or won't .

It really isn't a hard concept.
It really isn't a glamorous concept either.

People may want to help others, but if they are forced to by law, that is not a good thing.

And BTW, I am a warmongering Bush loving American...your words here to disparage me and those like me are sheer fantasy.

The only worthwhile leaders you have had since Winston, were Maggie and Tony...and once they are gone, you guys will be on your own. We don't give a damn about the "friends' across the ponds. Drown in your own cesspool of "tolerance". You'll soon be speaking some Middle East language anyway, so enjoy your little fantasy land whilst you can.

Jesus would certainly be proud of your tolerance and love for your fellow human beings! Keep up the good Christian work! And I'm sure he'd think you're the epitome of what's good in America, too.

Matthew
Chapter 5
1 When he saw the crowds, he went up the mountain, and after he had sat down, his disciples came to him.
2 He began to teach them, saying:
3 Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land.
6 Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied.
7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
8 Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
10 Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you (falsely) because of me.
12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven. Thus they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
13 "You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned? It is no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
14 You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden.
15 Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house.
16 Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.
17 Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.
18 Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place.
19 Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
20 I tell you, unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
21 You have heard that it was said to your ancestors, 'You shall not kill; and whoever kills will be liable to judgment.'
22 But I say to you, whoever is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment, and whoever says to his brother, 'Raqa,' will be answerable to the Sanhedrin, and whoever says, 'You fool,' will be liable to fiery Gehenna.

I am well educated and very conservative. A real liberal nightmare.

Gravatar 23 Therefore, if you bring your gift to the altar, and there recall that your brother has anything against you,
24 leave your gift there at the altar, go first and be reconciled with your brother, and then come and offer your gift.
25 Settle with your opponent quickly while on the way to court with him. Otherwise your opponent will hand you over to the judge, and the judge will hand you over to the guard, and you will be thrown into prison.
26 Amen, I say to you, you will not be released until you have paid the last penny.
27"You have heard that it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery.'
28 But I say to you, everyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
29 If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one of your members than to have your whole body thrown into Gehenna.
30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one of your members than to have your whole body go into Gehenna.
31"It was also said, 'Whoever divorces his wife must give her a bill of divorce.'
32 But I say to you, whoever divorces his wife (unless the marriage is unlawful) causes her to commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
33"Again you have heard that it was said to your ancestors, 'Do not take a false oath, but make good to the Lord all that you vow.'
34 But I say to you, do not swear at all; not by heaven, for it is God's throne;
35 nor by the earth, for it is his footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.
36 Do not swear by your head, for you cannot make a single hair white or black.
37 Let your 'Yes' mean 'Yes,' and your 'No' mean 'No.' Anything more is from the evil one.
38 "You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.'
39 But I say to you, offer no resistance to one who is evil. When someone strikes you on (your) right cheek, turn the other one to him as well.
40 If anyone wants to go to law with you over your tunic, hand him your cloak as well.
41 Should anyone press you into service for one mile, go with him for two miles.
42 Give to the one who asks of you, and do not turn your back on one who wants to borrow.
43 "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.'
44 But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you,
45 that you may be children of your heavenly Father, for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good, and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust.
46 For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have? Do not the tax collectors do the same?
47 And if you greet your brothers only, what is unusual about that? Do not the pagans do the same?
48 So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Gravatar Why exactly are you here then? If you want love go somewhere full of people like yourself. Simple.

What argument are you unafraid to back down from? Who is arguing with you? I've just seen you barge in and try and start arguments...

Just for the record, Tony Blair is a socialist- a "champagne socialist", but a socialist nonetheless...

I think that is where Jasmine and Gia and I fell on the political chart.

Those rightwingers believe things to be black or white, good or evil, no inbetweens.

Gravatar Maybe melissaTX is right! There is only one way, and it's the Republican way, and thinking outside the box is wrong!

Hey melissaTX, why didn't you start off with something intelligent to back your boy Bush, instead of bashing?

Come on melissaTX, you can do better than that. Now I'm not bashing you like you bashed Gia, just would like to have an intelligent conversation with you, because you are intelligent, right?

Lets get this out in a friendly debate with all the facts. We state what we see wrong, and you come back with something intelligent to open our eyes, and I hope we open yours too, melissaTX, and whomever would like to participate.
