Gravatar These are days I dread. Coming soon. However, I'm still naive enough to believe they'll tell me the truth. I talk to them so openly about drugs and alcohol, and peer pressure, and what we did and didn't do. I just plan to talk, talk, talk my way through it.

Gravatar i agree, susie. i too hope to be the kind of parent who can talk completely unemotionally about these kinds of things with my boy when the time comes. in essence i agree with the optimistic message of the booklet which is for parents to actually be "soft on drugs" or at least soft on their teens if caught using drugs. in practice, i think it fails to recognise that many kids who take drugs will be completely unable to talk to their parents about it at all, because drug use is wholly demonised in our society, including by the Government.

Gravatar My daughter picked it up and said "but we [meaning her and her brother] don't take drugs!".

"Yeah, I know" I said. "Chuck it out".

She did.
