A Pig's Tales

Gravatar We've read many of the same books-- so you'll probably enjoy Jodi Piccoult's 19 minutes... and, as a former teacher and the mother of a son, it will probably hit home... It is about a high school shooting. As usual, Piccoult is really compassionate toward all of the characters.

Gravatar I recommend any and everything by Jodi Picoult. (I see you've read at least two of her books already.) I love her books.

Gravatar Completely agree about Jodi P. I hope you loved Plain Truth. Just finished a great young adult novel called My Most Excellent Year. LOL funny! I also recommend Devil in the Junior League, and the newest by Linda Francis Lee, The Ex-Debutante! Enjoy!

Gravatar Looks like I need to get on the Jodi P. bandwagon. The blurbs always sound so depressing, though.

You need a feed reader! I don't know how I lived before I started using Google Reader (I hate blog lines).

My recommendation: Joshyilyn Jackson. She writes strong female heroes living in the South.

Gravatar Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See.

The writing is so tiny in the trade paperback I had to borrow my husbands readers.

Gravatar Ooooh! Oooooh! I post daily! So there should always be a little star by my name. I'm all about the validation.

And if you haven't read it already, I highly recommend Things Not Seen by Andrew Clements. It's a young adult book (main character is 15) but it's a great read.

Gravatar First of all, between my roommate and your list of preferred television viewing, I'm really beginning to think that there's something in that second X chromosome that kills any taste in TV, because outside of 30 Rock - wow. Just wow.

Good books of the fiction variety I've read recently. There's Icelander by Dustin Long and Bad Monkeys by Matt Ruff. On the nonfiction side, Cadillac Desert is probably worthwhile since you're moving to a state where the governor prays for rain and all.

Gravatar 'The Geography of Bliss' by Eric Weiner

I'm into mysteries these days, and they are quick reads. Check out the Tea Shop Mysteries by Laura Childs, all set in Charleston, and even have recipes in the back! All about the South, I think you'll like them.

Also, as mentioned in my previous post, the Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqueline Winspear. Set in England between the 2 world wars.

Otherwise, I'm not reading anything good, according to Bubba. But what does he know?

Gravatar Easter Island by Jennifer Vanderbes. This is fiction - a book set on Easter Island, not a book about Easter Island.

Also, if you're into vampires [I am not], several of my friends have been loving Twilight.

Gravatar Big thumbs up for Twilight! I didn't want to like it (I'm not into vampires either) but I looooooved it!

Gravatar I started reading your blog through The Man Club. I started blogging last month if you want to check it out. http://jdhteach.blogspot.com

Gravatar I just read The Seduction of Water. Pretty entertaining. And I like me some Tom Robbins, John Irving, Chuck Palahniuk, and Nick Hornby. Huh. When did I start reading primarily men? Also been reading the Janet Evanovich series. Quick, easy, amusing reading.

Gravatar Um...I'm a loyal reader, commenter, AND blogger, and I'm not even on your blogroll! I think I should be on there WITH an *!

Gravatar We seem to have a lot of the same taste in books. You might want to check out my Read list on my blog. I third (or fourth) the Twilight series, anything by Lois Duncan, God Don't Like Ugly and God Still Don't Like Ugly, Sarah Dessen (you seem to have a penchant for YA novels and she's wonderful!)

Hmmm, oh, and if you want to see a list of suggested summer reads from librarians across the country (I'm a school librarian) email me and I'll send you a link to that page on my wiki. I try to keep personal and professional life separate in the blogosphere though.

I'm a feed-reader of your blog and I love it, but I think I'm probably a first-time commenter.

Gravatar thanks...
