To be fair, I don't think it was *you* who stopped him singing, I think it was "the fact that someone else could hear him singing" which awoke him from his reverie.
But I still love the wistfulness of that sentence:
"I don't want to be a person who stops other people from singing"
Mariah Carey's in town. You've got a job, our kid.
I once caught my neighbour singing Radiohead's "High and Dry". He was trying to do the really high bit and was too distracted by the necessary straining to notice me at first.
It was hilarious.
We never spoke of it.
