It's all fun and games until somebody loses an eye

beth,
Get some....and I may spell her name wrong here....Corinne Bailey Rae.
That's the bedshaped tip for the year...until somebody else catches my ear.

Beth - don't bother - sounds like Norah Jones lite to me (if there could be such a thing) (sorry bedshaped...)

oooh, two reliable sources and a 50/50 split - now I don't know what to think.

Maybe I need to canvass more opinions.

Corinne Bailey Rae...I adored Like A Star, thought it was a million miles from the dull Melua-Jones set. One of those voices that gives me the goosebumps. Haven't heard anything else yet, but I have high hopes, even if the album got slated in the Guardian (which is usually on par with my opnions).

The Light 3000! That song is my first memory of the John Peel show. Summer 1999 I do believe. Went on to top the Festive 50. I might be wrong.

More opinions are required!
I can't say I would compare her to Nora Jones though, but everybody is entitled to their own opinion.
Perhaps the best thing is to check out just one track, then see what you think from that.

joe - if that's the way you remember it, that's the way it was.

Looks like I might have to make up my own mind on the Corrine Bailey Rae thing. Dammit.

Joe, it was certainly in one of the Festive Fiftys, because that's where we first heard it. I think we discovered The Delgaos and Boards Of Canada that year too via the F50.

Must have been a vintage year then, whenever it was.
