I understand exactly what you mean and believe me when I say I find it very frustrating as well.
Do you know how difficult it is to get hold of an 'original recording' on cd of Shakin' Stevens "This Ol' House"! I certainly do!
I've been right on the case, speaking to directors of the highest level at various Record Companies. Through the wonders of technology, a Video Conference has just finished between myself and four Directors, where we all discussed your concern and suggested possible answers....

He's probably got some of those awful 1970's "Top of the Pops" compilations.
For the benefit of those too young to remember them, they were compilation LPs of top 20 hits, but didn't feature the original artists; they were lame covers recorded my anonymous session musicians.
I had one of those as my first ever CD. Each song was sung by the same people, and none went through to the end but had snippets of all of them. I was gutted. You just can't fake 'Summertime' by Will Smith. It's against god and nature.
