It's all fun and games until somebody loses an eye

Just a suggestion....

Aah, the 'enter' key moved then, little bugger.

Try again shall I....
A suggestion:
Try not to attempt jumping right back into books. Perhaps you need to break them in gently by reading mags like Heat or Star and then progressing onto the more hardcore likes of Cosmo.

I agree about not sleeping properly, I'm exactly the same. My read of the year was definitely The Corrections, by Jonathan Franzen. It sent me to bed early and kept me in bed weekends until I'd finished it, and then I felt somehow empty and nothing's filled that gap since. My read of the century (so far) is A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry. I nearly topped myself when I finished that, so bereft did I feel.

I get quite involved in the Argos Catalogue at this time of year.

Perhaps if you got involved in "The Time Traveller's Wife" she would take you back to Des Moines in the 50's.

Hope that helps.

bedshaped - Thank you. I will seriously consider, then disregard, your suggestion.

jo -I loved 'The Corrections' - will check out 'A Fine Balance'

Murph - Already tried 'Time Travellers Wife', came down on the 'loved it, it made me cry' side of the fence. Didn't get to Iowa though.

I couldn't get through 'American Psycho'.
But last week I took another look at the film which I thought was excellent. Mainly because of Christian Beale's performance.

Oh please try Cloud Atlas again. Once you make it to the end of the first story it will pay you back one hundredfold.

I would venture to say that it is in my top five.

It's that time of year again. Time for forbidden things - 403 Christmas trees perhaps?

I've been a bit like that with books recently - mind you I did struggle all the way to the end of "White Teeth" but wished I hadn't bothered. I only read it because I loved "On Beauty". I see you've got "The Accidental" in that pile of books - don't let me put you off but I really hated it! I'm sure many people liked it, however... (why?) so it's always worth giving it a try - let me know what you think. A few weeks ago I read "Digging to America" by Anne Tyler, which I loved.

Ah, but Anne Tyler though! 'Digging to America' is on my wishlist.

It will be a while before I can even imagine giving Cloud Atlas a second chance Damian, but I won't rule it out!

"Time for forbidden things" looby? Now there's a dangerous idea.
