It's all fun and games until somebody loses an eye

((((hugs)))). Those pesky demons!

What a wonderfully evocative post. Well, maybe wonderful is the wrong word. But it's a great post.

I hope it's just some random crossing of synapses, and nothing more.

I have something similar regularly happens to me, but mine is more pleasant. It gets triggered mostly by pavements, but sometimes by walls or gate posts. It's some kind of vague buried memory. It's a happy feeling, and it tastes of fudge. The walls / pavements / gate posts have to be old, crumbly, overgrown. Many different types of wall / gate etc will trigger it, but they have to be oldish.

It happens a lot, but I've never got any closer to pinning it down. It's really more of an essence than a specific memory. But it does taste of fudge, or some other sweet thing. I think it has something to do with childhood.

Scents are incredibly evocative, aren't they? They really have the power to take you back.

What about XTC's Senses Working Overtime, or maybe Terry Hall's Sense?

Smells are indeed very powerful though. Whenever I go into MacDonalds the smell reminds me instantly of Burger King. I could almost be there.

Perhaps Lovely had chuffed?

Much better madam, terrifically well observed, there could even be novel in there somewhere you know.
Particularly like "I laugh it off" counterpointed by "it's very close by"
But we must address the music as well so The Cuties (as nobody calls them) OK if you must, similarly the too twee for their own good B&S, La Rusby can do no wrong , Gates is a hero, Ryan Adams just too prolific with nevitable lack of quality control and if there's a better singist of his type than Nick Drake then this cove's ears have yet to have the pleasure.

Walter - once again I am perplexed and astounded by your interest.

backroads - you just had to lower the tone didn't you.

anx - true - if I could only have placed where it was taking me back to...

Clare - it was exactly that sort of sensation - only no fudge & not nice.

SL - thank you.
