I tried The National at your unspoken behest, specifically Fake Empire (which I liked a lot) and Squalor Victoria (not so much)

Oh bad luck Walter - 'Squalor Victoria' is the only weak track on the album (I really should've pointed that out sooner). You want to try 'Mistaken For Strangers', and 'Racing Like A Pro', and 'Ada', and 'Slow Show' etc etc etc
I quite like Boxer, Beth. But it's never got the heavy rotation it probably deserves, so I'll try harder.
The biggies for me at the moment are the new BSP album, the new Cat Power album and (still) the inevitable Neon Bible.
Incidentally I was put off the Decemberists by a recent gig in Wolverhampton, where the lead singer had some kind of food poisoning an kept disappearing. I loved Castaways, but their last masterpice didn't do much for me. He's got a solo record out soon I believe..
