It's all fun and games until somebody loses an eye

Is it ok to be the best of anyone alive/of the same generation/in the same hemisphere, or do you have to be the best of anyone ever?

Just wondering how aligned I am with this statement. It's somewhere between 'completely' and mere 'mostly'.

I *think* it's just anyone currently living. I'm not worried about being as good as the dead, because they'll never be able to replicate their performance.

Except maybe in the field of poetry.

Maybe moonwalking too.

This exact thought is what stops me writing.

People say, "but why not read a really awful novel, to remind yourself that you can do better?".

I reply, "but it's not the worst that matter. It's the best, the ones I can never live up to."
