It's all fun and games until somebody loses an eye

You're right! And I did! They played Oxford last week. I was very grumpy about the venue, in fact I've got half a blog post lurking about it but the moment may have passed... but the band were brilliant. A touch ballady in places but when they rock, they really rock. Loved it.

I was very surprised at how good the banter was, one of the few times I've laughed at loud between songs...

"That's our last song"
BOOOOOO
(quietly) "It's not really... "

And yeah, they hit all the spots, the quiet songs where you could hear Guy without the mic, AND they renamed Mirrorball in honour of the ABC Glasgow Mirrorball... ohh wait, we all promised we wouldn't tell anyone that.. yeah, it's just called Mirrorball. LOL

Damn, bollocks and shit.
As you may see, I'm a little peeved at not getting to see them this time around. Especially considering how I feel about their latest album.
Opened with Starlings eh? I bet that was just magical.
When I move up there, I'm gonna do some serious research and find out where Guy drinks. I'd really like to buy him a drink and just sit and have a chat. He seems like that sort of bloke, yano.

Really pleased to see that you enjoyed it though, beth. As if you wouldn't have done!

Just listened to the record on Napster. They're not Thin Lizzy.

They're a quite delightful band. I've seen them live a couple of times, and have been utterly enraptured. Hoping to catch them at one of the plethora of festivals I've somehow convinced myself to go to this summer. I won't even care if it rains.

Excellent review, I was @ Manchester too, another glorious Elbow gig. At the Academy you often get people just out for a night making up the crowd but for this one I felt everyone was really into it. The "Mum Wave" was sweet and shows a band who are comfortable being just normal blokes.

Was it just me or is the sound better at this venue now?

They didn't play my fave "Scattered Black and Whites" but maybe you should always leave wanting a little bit more.
