Good luck and great job. People like you are the foundation of the change that is coming in our great country. Keep up the good work and know that are a force for the renewal we are all looking forward to. You example is an inspiration to all of us, whatever our own particular beliefs, that progressive social action will always be a reality.

Congrats on the move.

It looks good -- I was pleased to see that they moved the entire archive over to their site as well. Congratulations Glenn!

Congrats. How about an RSS feed at Salon, so we know when you've updated?

I made most of these points over there, but I think I did so a bit prematurely. Plus, I have a new point.

Issues w/ Salon:

1. No RSS feed. This is a huge deal for some of us who use RSS to tell when the blogs they read have been updated.

2. Slow. Salon.com is exceedingly slow in comparison to Blogger. This is, in part, due to:

3. Obtrusive Flash ads. I understand the need for advertisement, but it makes my browser stutter (and it obscures pages rendered in Firefox using Linux to the point of illegibility - which is a Flash problem, not a design problem). Especially problematic are...

4. Flash ads injected into comments thread. Maybe I'm nitpicking, but I like to read comment threads without being repeatedly told what to buy (although comment threads typically have their share of 'buy my book!' and 'read my blog!' anyways). I feel that it completely interrupts the flow of the conversation.

5. (Longshot) Ajax: I really, really like how Haloscan does the little Ajax "There are x new messages!" alert and lets you refresh. I feel that a feature like this would be a huge help, especially with a site that is somewhat slow. However, this is for Salon's web development team, and not you. Just putting it out there.

None of these are dealbreakers (though the RSS thing comes close). I will still read the blog as often as it is updated. As an about-to-finish law student who is more than a bit jaded by his professional options, it's inspiring to see the types of things people with law degrees actually do.

Keep up the good work, and thank you.

It looks like this is the future home of the RSS feed: http://feeds.salon.com/salon/greenwald

It's empty as I write this, hopefully it'll be getting new posts soon. My guess is that it will not contain full article text like the current feed does, which I understand given Salon's subscription/day pass model

Congrats, Glenn, and thanks for all of the hard work that got you to this point.

The RSS feed just isn't working yet, but it will.

Congrats Glenn. I'll have to bookmark the new site.

Congrats on the move. I'll be there as soon as the RSS is.

Bookmarked the new location. So, that's what you look like.

Congrats, Glenn. I joined Salon last week solely to read your blog. $35/yr is a small price to pay for your quality work.

Keep it up, don't change a thing.

Congratulations Glenn. I hope it all works well for you.

As a regular visitor to Unclaimed Territory AND a longtime premium subscriber to Salon, I must say I'm sad to see Unclaimed Territory go since some may not want to pay the Salon subscription fee for unfettered access but I'm delighted that you'll be getting a wider audience.

Here's hoping "Locutus" goes easy on you, at least for the first few days. Last week he declared poor Garrison Keillor to be a "flatulent gasbag" when he had the temerity to endore Hillary Clinton. (On a brighter note, when I went back later Locutus' post had magically disappeared :-)

Apart from the relentless ads and having the expectation that only headlines and perhaps a line or two of the article will show up in my RSS reader once the feed is activated, the next most obvious drawback from the standpoint of many readers will doubtless be the necessity of paging through comments, rather than scrolling. This will inevitably cause a major decrease in the number of comments that are read--which, in turn, is surely to cause many fewer comments to be posted in the first place. Who wants to take the time composing a comment that few people will see? Even worse, though, is that this will greatly impact the much-renowned feedback and interaction between Glenn and his readers.

Oh, and, Glenn, why don't you persuade them to put you at the top of their page every day, not just on this on this inaugural Monday? Worth a shot! Works out conveniently at Washington Monthly and Kevin Drum doesn't even have a friendly, cartoony image of himself to welcome web travelers..:)

RSS Feed?

I see an RSS Feed for the Opinion section, but it has other people (which I do not want to clutter my feed with) and your latest post does not appear in it.

I can't see the blog. Wherever I click, the ad just keeps refreshing.

Congratulations!

I have enjoyed commenting on your blog for a long time, but I will not comment on Salon because it requires an email address which I am unwilling to give out.

Keep writing!

Good luck, Glenn. I'll deeply miss reading your commentary -- it's truly some of the best available anywhere.

Probably won't follow. Nonetheless, mazel tof and thank you. Keep up the good work, God knows we need it more than ever.

Will see you over at Salon. Thanks for all you do!

Glenn,

Congratulations! I've been reading your work rather religiously since the end of 2005, and you definitely deserve a steady paycheck for it. It's nice to see the progress.

I feel like an indie kid watching his band finally get a major record deal. Except, of course, I'm not going to hold ill will for your "sell-out." Rock on! :o)

Cheers,

Stephen

To "Nobody" who said: "I have enjoyed commenting on your blog for a long time, but I will not comment on Salon because it requires an email address which I am unwilling to give out."

For what it's worth, I've been a premium Salon subscriber for 3 years (worth the $35 a year to eliminate all the ads and not have to screw around with the whole "guest pass" business) and my email address has never been included with any of my comments and, as far as I know, Salon hasn't sold my email addy to anyone. (If push comes to shove, you can alway get a free email addy from yahoo or google or hotmail and use that email addy just for commenting at Salon and other blogs that require a valid email address.) Just a thought.

Congratualations and good luck with your new forum. I'm a premium member at Salon, so it makes no difference to me where I access your great blog. For the non-members, it's a pain in the rear to have get special pass every day. Now that you're at Salon, maybe others will become members. You and Blumenthal are worth it.

Hi Glenn

I was amazed (and relieved) at how easy it was to click through the ad at Salon and get to your column.

From comment above:

"2. Slow. Salon.com is exceedingly slow in comparison to Blogger."
I didn't have any trouble with this.

"3. Obtrusive Flash ads. I understand the need for advertisement, but it makes my browser stutter"
I've experinced that problem and understand the frustration and it seemed to magically go away when I switched from a 52K dial up modem to DSL Broadband.

5. (Longshot) Ajax: I really, really like how Haloscan does the little Ajax "There are x new messages!" alert and lets you refresh.
I second this..its a nice feature.

I've been over to the Salon site and it looks great. Congratulations on the move. I will be reading you every day there, just as I've done here.

Anyone who says they will refuse to read you because you've moved to Salon is, frankly, not worth worrying about.

The more your work and work like it become "mainstream" the better!

hey, glenn has his own sitepass ad.

I hope salon finds a business model to allow them to present you without the surcharges or ads.

Patrick Cosmos: I'm using Linux/Firefox too, but not having the problems you cite. A little tweaking on the settings for Adblock, Flashblock (you'll love that extension), and NoScript, and it all renders quite nicely! I see no flash at all! (Sorry, Salon... hopefully the "clicks" are still registering) RSS is up and running too (see tonyc's link a little below your comment).

3reddogs: Try mailinator.com for a throw-away email address to use where one is required but you don't want to give yours out. You can use any name you want (e.g. 3reddogs@mailinator.com) and you don't have to sign up or do anything. It automatically creates an account if there isn't one by that name already, and you can even read emails that get sent there (drawback - so can anybody else, so don't use it for personal stuff). I've always used mailinator here on Haloscan because I assumed an email address was required (apparently not).

Good luck.

Give Keith Knight a big hug.

Although haloscan isn't perfect, I've seen it and other similar commenting apps at Salon and I hope they switch. From what I've seen, conversations between commenters, which have always been interesting (to say the least) here, aren't as easily facilitated with Salon's "Letter" system.

I think the problem on this hand in regards to the slowness is actually an issue with the goofy beta Flash that I have uncerimoniously forced into Firefox. It's not my connection. All the Flash just makes the CPU use spike like a seismograph.

I might grab AdBlock (or similar) again, but last time it was removing basic functionality from sites I visited. It may be a necessary evil in this case, because I try to keep my Windows use isolated to school stuff.

Nevertheless, thanks for the suggestions.

Also, I second the notion that the page splits for comments is incredibly disruptive. Sure would be nice to just have Haloscan over there.

Congratulations, Mr. Greenwald. The narrative awaits you.

Thanks for everything, Glenn. You will be missed by the unwashed. May your influence in our discourse grow!

Visitng UT for updates and follow
up reads was easy as pie...will miss
that ease of access. Having to "title"
comments seems akward compared to UT
compose,edit and publish process. I
dont mind the email gig but coming up
with "required" titles seems a bit
much on a blog where some easily post
many times during course of a thread.
UT "haloscan" had a conversational
quality about it that was easy to
jump in and out of...really liked that
aspect of UT. Have commented at Salon
many times but the "letter" format is
not as open in format or "thread feel"
I think. UT was a favorite site for
the "up near the barricade" street
feel of it politically speaking. That
quality will be missed by me lots if
it is lost in the transition to Salon.
Best wishes Glenn at Salon...and nice
to see what you look like. That is a
nice touch...:-)

Congrats on the move!

BTW, an RSS feed seems to be missing. Of course, I may not have looked closely enough....

It would be too bad to have to stop reading you....

Duh, ignore that last bit about the RSS feed.

....

Glenn, that Salon Day Pass ad is a real pain in the ass if you use Firefox and Adblock. I can't figure out a workaround that doesn't involve shutting off Adblock and restarting Firefox, which I'm not opposed to in theory but is kind of a chore. Don't know if this is something that can be easily hammered out but might want to pass it on to your tech d00dz.

I should add that the problem is that I can't see the ad and thus can't click on it, durr.

I have all three browsers on my system.

Exploder, Opera and Firefox. Opera works fine at Salon.

http://www.opera.com/

I have enjoyed commenting on your blog for a long time, but I will not comment on Salon because it requires an email address which I am unwilling to give out.

Nobody

So you use a dummy e-mail addy like nobody@nospam.com. I rarely ever use anything else for commenting. Neither do most people, I suspect.

Thanks for all the work on this site Glenn. You da man! Congrats on your move, as well. I respect it, am happy for you -- but I ain't happy about it.

If Glenn gets more exposure, even becomes a frequent guest on cable news shows, America and political discourse in general, will benefit from it. It will be refreshing to find someone on those shows who has no opinion on Anna Nicole Smith and is not afraid to say so.

Just a little note - When I announced the move, I spent two full days here having a full-fledged, raging, completely free discussion and debate over the merits of the move. Everyone was free to say whatever they wanted, no matter how critical, insulting, etc. And many did. Those posts and comment sections remain and will continue to remain, and they are linked in this post.

That is not what this post is for. This is the last post that will be posted at this blog and its purpose is not to enable anyone who wants to do so to come and spew all sorts of insults, complaints and other forms of attack.

My comments section has always been one of the most unregulated and uncensored in the blogosphere, particularly for the volume of comments, and I intend to continue that practice at the Salon blog, where I am now blogging. If someone wants to complain, spew insults, etc. there - and not here - is the place to do so.

if you prefer another mode of commenting than provided by Salon why not set up a blog just for commenting on Glenn's posts / like Moon over Alabama did when Billmon stopped having comments ?

Congrats Glenn. Deserved and a great decision by both parties. Unfortunately I might miss out on the fun; Firefox won't show the free ad and I can't find any way to fix it. Updating Flash Player didn't help.

If anybody has any idea how this can be fixed (I'm using Win XP and I won't switch to IE) shoot me an email at portusjacksonii (at) yahoo (dot) com.

So sorry, Glenn - I misunderstood your comments about modifications & feedback, etc. in the post to mean that it was okay here (not insults, of course!).

IVAN - It's just not the purpose of this thread. I appreciate the nice words.

Tim - Can you write to Jeanne@salon.com and say what your problem is. That shouldn't be happening.

OK, Glenn. We're cool.

TIM - Apparently, there is some sort of ad-blocking feature which, if enabled, will block access.

The right e-mail address for problems of that sort is SPorter@salon.com

I read Unclaimed Territory via RSS, and I just contributed $50 in October. Now the blog has moved to Salon, not only can I not read the full posts via RSS any more, but I'm forced to either jump through a day pass hoop, or spend another $35 to get a Salon membership.

Add that to the cost of Glenn's book which Amazon never bothered to deliver (that's Amazon's fault, not Glenn), and that's well over $100 I've invested, apparently to read advertisements every day on Salon.

that's well over $100 I've invested,

Where did the $100 come from? If you bought the Salon subscription ($35), then you can access the blog without having to skip over an ad.

As I made clear, this post is not for these kinds of comments. I had a lengthy discussion of all these issues in the two posts I linked to in this post -- including the reasons why I think complaints like this are both unfair and unwarranted -- and all of the issues you raised are discussed there.

I'll leave these comments up for a couple days because, for whatever reason, some people seem to have a pressing need to come here and re-iterate these objections to my moving my blog, but, in a couple days, I will cease checking this blog with any regularlity, so my intent - for this post at least - is to delete these sorts of comments and lock this thread.

I'm responding to your comment in this thread so it's obvious what I'm referring to. After this I'll pack up and move to the other thread (although you're free to email me directly if you'd like).

I'm not objecting to you moving your blog. It's great that you were able to turn your hobby into a full-time gig.

The $100 comes from the cost of the book ("How Would a Patriot Act") plus the money I sent you via Pay Pal. I assumed the book was $50 without actually checking the cost (I bought believe I pre-payed for the book, although I don't remember exactly because it's been several months). Checking Amazon now, it turns out it's less expensive than that.

Regardless, the total amount of money I've invested in reading your material in the last couple months is still close to twice the cost of a Salon membership.

(And yes, as I said in my first post, I realize the Amazon thing isn't your fault).

The remaining $50 I mentioned was sent directly to you via the Paypal link on your sidebar, on October 14th. If you log in to Paypal and look at the payments on October 14th, 2006, you'll see my payment there.

As I said before, I read your site via RSS, so I haven't read the comments for the two posts you mentioned. I'll go read through the comments there once I'm done with this post.

The reason I am frustrated is no more RSS, and I either have to click through an annoying ad (which I absolutely refuse to do), or spend even more money to continue reading your stuff. That was it.

Anyway, off to the other posts now

pabs:
"The reason I am frustrated is no more RSS,"

Thanks for all the great essays on Unclaimed Territory. I'm glad it turned into a paying gig to a wider audience.
Please stick with your blog style in your writing for Salon. Remember: it was our traffic that put you there, and we can take you out :)

I read the full articles via RSS (along with a handful of other sites). The summary is almost completely useless to me.

I'm willing to pay for a subscription if the full text is available via RSS.

Otherwise just can't justify the cost.

I guess I could pay the subscription and then write a scraper that converts the full stories to RSS. Seems like a lot of work for something that the current blog already provides for free, though.

(I should also reiterate that I'm not knocking Glenn's move to Salon. I think his reasons make perfect sense and I'm excited that his writing will reach a much wider audience).

Glenn - will do. Thanks for resoponding.

If anybody has any idea how this can be fixed (I'm using Win XP and I won't switch to IE) shoot me an email at portusjacksonii (at) yahoo (dot) com.
Tim F

Try Opera, Tim.

It's just like Firefox. I use all three and have no problems with any of them.

http://www.opera.com/download/

Thank you very much for your writings here and i will hopefully be able to continue reading in the salon. Good luck!

Glenn, if you stop by here anymore, maybe you could pass on this note to Salon:

If I'm gonna pay for a membership, I'd like to know how much it costs before I start filling out the boxes in the idiot Web form.

I'm sure not going to type my personal and credit card info in a bunch of boxes and then find out I don't want to pay that much to join.

I go to The Salon site and just plain cannot find you. Don't they have a index of some kind?

I go to The Salon site and just plain cannot find you. Don't they have a index of some kind?

Go to Salon.com - in the upper left corner you will see a list of DAILY columns. I'm listed there. Or you can just click on the link in this post

Personal experience:
I check in for GG at Salon once a day via bookmark. (linux/FireFox)
I've started reading more of the fine product over there. I haven't had to click through any ads since my first visit. I must have kryptonite cookies.

A pity one cannot post comments on articles by Glenn unless you sign up for Salon.

No thanks.

The blog here was better.

A pity one cannot post comments on articles by Glenn unless you sign up for Salon.

This is completely false. Anyone can comment on any article or post at Salon, subscriber or non-subscriber.

Ok. A comment section comes up now.

First time I tried it I used the Salon link, (here), from Glenn's own blogg at the top of the article. The article came up at Salon with no ad to be clicked on, but wouldn't let me comment. Today I tried it and an ad came up before the article appeared. After I clicked the ad I could post comments on all the articles.

Glenn is correct on posting. Just watch out if no ad comes up. A "Send a letter to the editor" section might not pop up.

Glenn is correct on posting. Just watch out if no ad comes up. A "Send a letter to the editor" section might not pop up.

Thanks, James - it's not a perfect system over there (though neither was it here). I'm not saying there aren't some imperfections and annoyances. It's just that - like with anything new - it takes a tiny amount of patience and getting used to. The reality is, in terms of features and the like, there are many more there than here. The one inferior aspect is the comment section, though it will improve when one grows accustomed to it, but I think they will work to make the necessary changes.

So what happens to this site?
Are we kicking old cat toys and beer cans around in a condemned house?
(honestly, the metaphor is all too real for me) Can someone else claim this territory?

Aww blogger misses you.

believeable just what I want to read today. I think this is an excellent reason for people (like you and me) to stop fearing the big stacks... and to stop bullying the small stacks. It was quite useful reading, found some interesting viewpoints in here, - Thanks!

Hi. My name is Eugene Gershin. I'd like to welcome you to Obadiah Shoher's blog, Samson Blinded: A Machiavellian Perspective on the Middle East Conflict.

Obadiah is a pen name of a politician. He writes extremely controversial articles about Israel, the Middle East politics, and terrorism.

Obadiah advocates political rationalism instead of moralizing. He is economic liberal and political conservative.

Google refused advertising our site and Amazon deleted reviews of Obadiah's book. Nevertheless, Obadiah’s is the largest Jewish personal blog, read by more than 100,000 people monthly. 210,000 people from 81 countries downloaded Obadiah’s book. The blog was voted the best overall in People’s Choice: Jewish and Israeli blogs Awards, received Webby Honoree and other awards.

Please help us spread Obadiah's message, and mention the blog in one of your posts, or link to us. We would greatly appreciate your comments at www.samsonblinded.org/blog

Best wishes,

Eugene Gershin

We are curious. Lots of folks have move their blogs to other hosted sites. What is the advantage of doing this?

- Your curious friends at Best Dog Videos

reinstate@freewill.com
This is how the gods do business:::::They use temptation and deception to compel people to chase something that has already been decided. It's children who go to "beaven". OLd people have to come back. The gods will use their power to contradict this, corrupting people and compelling them to incurr evil::::They used the Italians to ruin life in the 20th century, cost you the Final Prophet and the result will be death as you wait for the Italian Second Coming of Christ to save you.

As people begin to age the gods employ corrupting tactics. They ultimately begin to look down on the children and the wisdom they recently understood:::
They voluntarily turn their back on their opportunity to ascend and instead embrace evil.
It's not old people who go to heaven. Old people must come back because of the mistakes they've made throughout their lives. Children are the ones who have the opportunity to ascend.

Children are discounted by adults in society. The gods corrupt people as they age, use trust-building tactics and soon adults view the children as ignorant, yet to understand the god's system, and subsequently look down on the children. This is one of the most bitter, painful ironies the gods employ, for people consciously turn their back on and lose their opportunity to ascend::::
Religions teach that old people to go to heaven when they die. They don't. Old people are reincarnated. It's the children who go to heaven, those who have a chance at immortality.
The wisdom the gods impart to children, either through their innocence/purity or religious-based educational pursuits are the gods sharing the truth with their most favored people::::It's the children whom the gods teach the right way for it is the children who have a chance. For example, they teach children to have faith, for understanding the god's geographical clues hurts people by illustrating negative things, opening the door for the god's to employ deceptive tactics.
Old people don't go to heaven. Old people must come back because of the mistakes they've made throughout their lives. It's the children who have the opportunity to go to "heaven". They must behave apprioriately, think correctly and be genuinely god-fearing. Their innocence and lack of desensitization ensures they have a real opportunity to achieve this goal.

This is charecteristic of the gods methodology::::The big prize gone early, deception compels people to chase something that has already been decided. They sent this clue with boss as well. It is also a clue supporting my claim RW&B's german is in fact Christianity's Anti-Christ. Logic also dictates, considering the definition.
The confusion over this multi-dimentional positioning will serve as an effective tactic, eliminating many additional disfavored in the process, for positioning states the Apocalypse to be a continuation of WorldWarII's Aryan superrace ideals, positioned as punishment for the 5th century invastion of the Roman Empire:::John's Fourth Reich.
This amounts only to "nested theater":::::Levels of positioning enables the gods to scapegoat:::::RW&B merely is the tool the gods chose to execute the final scene of their scripted theater that is human history.

Just as they would have had me chase boss so would they have wanted me to sign on to this theater, evil by definition, and chase this role of Anti-Christ. By doing so I would have incurred evil and would have been punished, painfully "losing" Anti-Christ in the process.
Does that mean RW&B is not the Anti-Christ?? I suspect as they would have "offered" it to me so will there be a fake Anti-Christ for those in these generations to accept as well. But it is a clone host. This is ALL clone host theater, created not as a clue to me but instead designed to be preditory on the disfavored, designed to increase indecency and further the god's goal of justification towards The End.
We were all merely peasants centuries ago, struggling with our disfavor, but without the enormity of temptations, real and telepathic, which exist today.

They have shared I was positioned to some disfavored as the Second Coming of Christ, explaining all the evil surrounding me and RW&B's placement in the "eye of The Beast" was to positon the sabotage of my candidacy (Damien Omen, Big Army Men, etc).
The Big Lie of course is that Christianity is evil. The reverse positioning nature of Planet Earth dictates that good is demonized, as we wintessed in World War II, while evil is put on a pedistal, as we see with the Italians.
The truth? The gods used their tools to create this and the rest of the incidents surrounding this Situation to distract the people from my message, for I speak the truth:::Only you can save you. You have to be responsible for your own relationship with the gods.

The gods are asexual. They have no sex organs nor rectums.
When the gods take children these individuals have the opportunity to become "god-like". Temptations are employed and, if sucessful, these are the individuals who make up the human race's immortals.
I believe there are opportunities that exist for females that do no exist for males. I don't mean to paint with a broad brush but women's "sexual peak" may represent the transistion to "sociological males" and their "fall from grace". Considering today's promiscuity I question whether this is currently applicable, and is yet anther 20th century-earlier phenominah.
I believe Purgatory is real. I think it is a temporary destination, perhaps sparsely utilized until the Apocalypse, but this will be the destination for those who "ascend" during the event. As they've said this planet will too be disposed of one day and it is imperative people try to avoid that destination, for there may be no escaping its fate.

congratz!!!
