It is time for the Libertarian Party to step up to the plate, with so many people who like our Capitalist heritage and enjoy our freedoms both social and economic, it is time for the party who can grant both of those freedoms and protect those rights to stand up.

And...it's time for liberty lovers of good conscience to get active with their local LP and start becoming activists for positive change.

As of now, the Libertarian Party is a little bit too extreme to be able to garner moderate votes, however; with America's gradual shift leftwards, I think that the Libertarian party can go in, and gradually shift the country back to the ideals of our forefathers.

Too extreme? Have you actually been to a LP function? Taken part in any campaigns?

If the Libertarians are never willing to take small steps, than we will keep sliding into Socialist control; we cannot let this happen.

Most Libertarians are perfectly willing to do that, as long as they are GENUINE steps in the right direction. Many times, the "steps" being advocated are billed as the "right direction", but are really just the opposite.

It's time to be better than a two-party system, it is time for the Libertarian party to take the ropes and wean the people off of the Welfare that in many ways oppresses them and makes them reliant on Big government.

Amen, brother... But people need to want to get rid of the Welfare State, too. the LP can't do it all.

I have seen their platform, and frankly, to anyone who isn't a true big L libertarian, it seems a little extreme. I'm sure you would say that extremism in the pursuit of liberty is no vice, but the fact remains; extremism, in any form, is inherently repugnant to people who live in moderation, no matter what it's goal is. Frankly, I think that the Republican Party needs to take a step backward to their original purposes, and help us achieve liberty and freedom as it truly stands.

Have you seen it recently? At the last National Convention, they did a remodeling of the platform to make the planks more understandable to the common Joe.

(Oh... and history lesson... the "original" purpose of the Republican party was big government...)

Well, the point is that prohibition doesn't work, and it should be scrapped. There isn't one positive aspect of prohibition.

Now, how do we get there is another question. But if prohibition doesn't work, and only creates mroe problems, then it is just irrational to want to continue it.

Granted, it takes some education to convince people... but that's no reason to change your stance altogether. If prohibition is a failure, and we would be better served with getting rid of it, then changing your position to saying that we should keep prohibition doesn't do any good.
