that doesnt matter 6, 8 or 9pm - the thing that matters is total calories + the total activity you do to lose weight.

The main reason 5 meals is better is because bigger meals tend to produce more insulin which promotes fat storage but dont even worry about that TOO much if you keep your diet & caloreis in check


Thanks for your responses. What is the latest time I should eat my last meal? I've heard you shouldn't eat after 8, then I heard it's after 6pm.

ANy weight scale will do as long as it helps you accurately keep track of total food calories

If you can't eat 5 meals - you can divide all of your calories into 3 bigger meals and doing that wont hinder your weight loss but...

If you do run into weight loss troubles then switching back to 5 smaller meals may certainly help

Another question...sorry...I'm a teacher and it's hard to stop and eat more than once a day. According to the weight calculator I need to eat no more than 296 calories per meal 5 times a day. What advice can you give to a person than can't stop and eat no more than one time during work hours? I eat breakfast before going to work at 7am and lunch while i'm there around 12pm so will I have to eat again around 4pm, 7pm and 10pm???

Weights are a good thing

You may have put on some muscle weight and even if you gained 3 pounds of muscle - it'll make you look 3 pounds skinnier so in that case...

you shouldn't worry about the scale

fried fish is still okay but to get a flatter stomach means you need to eat the right amount of calories to lose weight and exercise so basically...

let's say you can only have 300 calories per meal to lose fat - 1 piece of fired fish may be 300 cals and that's all you can have in that meal but...

You can eat baked fish + more food before reaching 300 cals

Generally - fish is just fine but baked is better because of less fat and I'm not saying FAT IS BAD but...

When eating fat - you cant eat too much fat without eating TOO much calories which will make it harder for you to lose weight but...

if trying to build muscle - then fried or baked will also be fine but again - with fried/fatty fish...

you cant eat too much fried fish without consuming TOO many calories

I've been eating a lot of fish lately. My question is even if it's fried fish is it ok? I do eat baked fish sometimes but prefer fried. I was told fish is fish no matter how you eat it. Is that true?

I am a 43 yr old woman who has become really commited to weight loss in the past 2 months. I have punched up exercise (strength training, walking/running and kickboxing). I really enjoy it. Where I am falling short is my diet. I was informed on yesterday that I have slightly elevated levels of cholesterol (how can that be?!). I was told it may be due to the fact that I eat protein in large amounts (more than 3 x per day). Please help! I am willing to try new foods, but am allergic to milk products and I don't like tomatoes.

I've heard the same thing but those aritcles recommend you only eat a "hershey kiss" size amount of chocaltate a day and...

they are not avocating that you can eat a candy bar daily

Natural and lightly salted popcorn is ok but not the buttered and cheese popcorns and unsweetened pickles are okay and herring is okay


Great list, but why are pickles and popcorn in the "good" food list and also in the foods to not eat during weight loss list? Also what about kippered herring?

Basically - any food that doesnt cause an extreme rise in insulin is a good weight loss food

Gaining FAT is due in part to the hormone insulin and overeating and...

eating sugars, snacks and processed foods cause extreme rises in insulin because the insulin has to put the excess SIMPLE carbs/sugars from snacks somwhere and so it stores it as fat.

The more complex the carbs or lower GI like you said prevents insulin or keeps it in check preventing fat gain and basically...

If you ate more complex or low gi foods then you can really lose weight without counting cals but...

You'll get full eating so quick by eating healthy - you wont overeat either so YES...

Potatoes are fine but NOT PROCESSED potato chips or pringles

I was looking at the list of weight loss foods and i was surprised to see potatoes listed. I thought that potatoes, while very healthy, were not suited to weight loss because of their high glycemic index. But i looked on the internet and i saw that some places recommended them as well. Can you explain to me why potatoes can be a good weight loss food?

I really want to incorporate low fat yogurt into my meal plan. Would a protein shake, raw vegetables, and low fat yogurt make a good snack? Each of my meals needs to be about 250 calories with 23 grams of protein per meal (I need to lose 35 pounds so I'm doing the 50lb weight loss plan).
