I don't know if you can help me - I'm trying to lose weight so that I can drop a weight category in a Judo competition on the 21st Feb.

I am currently at 56kg, which is fine; but training begins next week. We have technique/fighting training four times a week, which usually takes my weight up to around 59, 60kg. This will put me right at the bottom of my weight category and mean that I have to fight people heavier than me and potentially a higher grade than me - if I can stay the same weight now, I will be one of the heaviest and one of the highest grades, because of the way the competition system works.

So basically, I'm wondering how I can exercise so much, gain a lot of muscle (essential if I'm going to do well at the comp. - can't cut back on training) and still maintain this weight. Last time, I lived for the month before on just brown rice and steamed veg, but it wasn't enough. I don't want to do anything too extreme though as I need enough energy to train and fight!
I'm also vegetarian.

I've been a raw foodist for two years and even did a water fast for a month last year but I cannot lose weight. (After the month water fast, I lost 9 lbs only... over the past two years I have lost 25 lbs but that was really only the first year. This past year I've stayed completely stable weight-wise.)

I am at a complete loss as to what is wrong. Currently, I am 5'0" and 155 lbs. I've been to doctors and they say I'm completely healthy. I was convinced my thyroid was going awry but it passed the test, too. After 6 different doctors and NOTHING coming back abnormal, I'm frustrated.

If you want abs you haffta do exercises that work those abdominals. Don't just do 200 crunched, that won't work. Do like 4-5 different exercises for your abs. 3 sets each, 10-30 reps per set and group your exercises together like so, do 2 exercises back to back and rest once both exercises have 1 set completed. After resting, then do your second set of both those exercises again. Then rest and proceed with your 3rd set. This type of ab routine is absolutely grueling for the first week or two, but it gets much easier once you've taught your body to cope with it. Work your abs 5 out of 7 days of the week and no more then 3 days in a row, and never work them out when they are really sore. You'll get to the point where you can do em every day, it's just hard to get started. I went from a big belly to a ripped 6 pack in 10 weeks.

The problem for me is that i don't even eat that much and I try to eat healthy food most of the time. However, I have problems with my hormone and it is really hard for me to loose weight.I used to be 55 kilos and now Im 78. When I work out my muscles build up but the fat is not leaving, so that makes me look even bigger. I tried some personal trainers but I dont think they seem to understand what my body needed. I have a very curve body and with some exercises some parts of my body start standing out even more and that makes it too much.

You can still eat normally but in your case...

You would have to reverse your eating schedule from that of a normal person who has a day job so for example for you...

9:30pm would be your breakfast
12:30 would be meal #2
3:30am would be meal #3
6:30 am would be meal #4
9:30am would be last meal

and you would of course fit in some time to exercise.
