Hi, I am a 29 year old woman I am naturally muscular and want to get down to between 135-140lbs I am 5'2. At a 140 lbs I am a solid size 4.
I gave birth to my first child last march. Pre-preg i weighed 148 and I got up to 183 while pregnant. After giving birth asne while at home with the I got down to 153 but since going back to work last september I have been on a roller coaster trying to lose this weight. I have lots of stress and very little sleep and i dont see that changing anytime soon. I am currenlty 165 lbs and got up to 176 and down to 155 within the last year.

Please help I am tired of yo yoing and feeling like a fat bloated mess

I walk at least 5 days a week but have not started working out really hard like I use to prebaby because of low energy levels.

I gained around 60 pounds during my pregnancy and I lost around 40. I want to lose the last 20 pounds and have not been able to lose anything lately. What is the best diet for me to follow? Thanks in advance for your help.

I was using three to five pound weights and high reps, aka circuit training 5 to 6 times a week for 30-45 minutes. My appetite did increase, but I was watching the calories. I can definitely say I ate more than I normally do. Maybe I ate more calories than I thought?

It took about three in a half months to pack on the weight, but after a month I definitely noticed my body changing. Although my butt and thighs were rock solid they were also bigger and I couldn't get my jeans past my thighs. And my torso expanded as well. I just thought if I kept going I would slim down because muscle makes a person look leaner and it burns more calories etc etc.

I haven't exercised like that in years and years and years (and years and years). I used to be a swimmer and a dancer so I am familiar with weight training, but I was also a lot younger too and things have changed. HA!

Thank you so much for your advice. It's so hard to get basic answers. I have been searching the web trying to figure out what went wrong and I haven't found an answer or better yet a solution, so thank you very much. I really like your site and will keep coming back!!

It seems like your workout was your downfall.

IT sounds like you were lifting heavy weights along with eating a higher calorie/protein diet to pack on up to 14 pounds of muscle.

was this your first time strenght training?

how long did it take you to gain 14 pounds?

You best solution is like you said... forget about weight training and focus on cardio & diet only to debulk


Please help! Back in March I quit smoking and started working out 5 days a week to lose some extra pounds I had put on. When I started I weighed 116 and over the course of three in a half months of working out and changing my eating habits I gained 14 pounds. I was busting my butt 5 days a week to lose 6-8 pounds and it back fired. I was very diligent with weighing my food, counting calories, drinking tons of water, the whole nine yards and yet I gained 14 extra pounds. I don't get it? I have tons of people telling me it's muscle, but I am bigger not leaner. Obviously I am very unhappy because before I started my jeans were just a little snug and now I can't get them past my thighs. I look very bulky/muscular and that's NOT what I was going for. Now I weigh 130 pounds (I'm used to being between 105-110) I'm 5'3" and 33 years old. I have started a different work out regime in the hopes that I will become lean again. Do you have any tips for me for debulking or tell me why I gained so much weight with working out? Should I just do cardio and forget about strength training? Please help me. Losing this weight is consuming my life. I don't know what more to do?


Thanks, Adrian- I did intervals for 30-45 mins on the elliptical machine yesterday & today I'm one pound lighter-- not sure if that had anything to do with it. Intervals workout is definitely interesting. I was surprised by how much I was sweating!

I had a baby 11mos ago, am 5'5 160 lbs, and I can't seem to lose weight. I've had babies before without any weight loss problems. My prepregnancy weight is 125lbs. I eat only fresh fruits, veggies, and fish and I workout doing yoga and cardio with weights 1 1/2hrs 4-5x's/wk. I have been doing this for 2-3mos without results. I know muscle weighs more than fat and can slow results "on the scale", but over 2 mos?! I don't have a history of weight problems, so I am confused


I have been working out since May and have only lost 3 lbs. I am a 37 year old female, 5'2", 170lbs. I work out 5-6x/week from 1-1.5 hrs each time. at least 45-60 mins of cardio, and the rest is strength training. I eat on average about 1400-1800 calories a day. I am always changing up my workouts to keep variety. I drink alot of water. I am a vegan, do not drink alcohol, nor caffeine. I eat very well, all fresh organic fruits & veg, tempeh, tofu, low-fat, etc. I have lost a few inches from my waist, but not much anywhere else. Everyone says I look smaller, but the scale & the measuring tape (other than waist) haven't changed. What is going on? I don't know if it's a plateau because I never lost a lot of weight to begin with. I do have an anxiety disorder, but I do not eat when I am stressed-- I have no appetite when I am stressed out. Help!

I take coffee as my energy booster.. Is it ok? Without coffee I can't stick to my exercise routine. I take coffee everyday for my breakfast and I'll do my workout for 1 - 2 hour at 6.00 p.m. I feel so energertic. But I dont know wheter coffee is good or bad for me.

Great site, great info.
I am at my wits end with my weight.
Stats: Female, age 36, height 5'3 and 140lbs. I workout 6 days a week, 5-6 days cardio (3 days a week spinning classes, 3 days of 35min. jog/walk on treadmill or DVD video. 4 days a week of body sculpting.
I think I eat about 1200 calories a day.
Goal weight is 115-120lbs. I quit smoking for 20months now and that is when the weight came on. 15 pounds gained roughly. I've been working out this way and eating right for a whole year and scale is not budging. What am I doing wrong? HELP

Hello i have a question..i workout mainly everyday..heres what i do. i ride my bike for about 30 minutes, i walk for 30 more minutes go home, do 50 sit-ups 100 crunches 20 push-ups and 50 squats. now i wanna know if im doing something wrong or something right with this exercise..cause im not seeing any results and i would like to lose weight before my school year begins

Can i take fruits as much as i can daily? I use to take fresh Lychee, Guava, Watermelon, etc.

Should I limit the fruits intake as well? Some people say, Fruits also contains a lot sugar, so that it will increase our weight if we take it more.. I'm so confused about this..

Hi, I'm just turned 20, I'm 5"7 and I weigh 130.5lbs, I know thats considered to be a healthy weight, but I need to lose some stomach weight because I feel like its still sticking out a little. I've been going to the gym for over a month now and have lost 11lbs doing cardio and weight training, because I started off at 141lbs, However, I want to get down to 120lbs or atleast lose my stomach fat halfway through August. I am eating healthy, I cant eat meat except for turkey or fish... but I've still divided up my nutrition. I am eating about 1200-1300 calories a day, do I need to cut back on the calories some more? I've been snacking on fruits and almonds, my diet basically consists of cereal, fruits, green tea, almonds, milk, vegetables, green tea and an occasionly turkey sandwich or some cottage cheese. I try to get in atleast 120 crunches a day, I am seeing some Ab formation, but the fat is still there, preventing the definition I wanna see. Is it possible to lose 10lbs by mid august? I really need to, I just dont know what more I can do. I was hoping you might have some suggestions for me .

and now its 189 .(am 18 years old).whats the big problem?i am doing about 60 min workout,every single morning,,,why is this happening to me? before doing exercises i was at at least stagnant or increasing weight by very less..

My main suggestion for you would be to increase the intensity of your workouts by walking faster or even jogging and not increasing the time plus...

I was 299 pounds on the 1st of February and I've managed to make it 241. It seems that since the beginning of June...I've hit a wall and can't seem to get the scales to move anymore. I am eating between 1200-1500 calories a day. I started doing 75 minutes a day on the treadmill about two weeks ago to try and bump it up and get things moving again but no such luck. I am still eating well and according to my heart rate monitor I am burning about 1100 calories per workout. I feel the scale should be moving. I am really at a loss for what to do? I still need to lose 78 more pounds to reach my goal (I am 5' 8" female, with a large frame or athletic build...I would like to be 162 pounds) Any suggestions?
