Hi,
I want my shoulders to look more square. i think when i was younger they were, and my neck looked slim, but as i got older i started doing sit ups all the time. i dont so much anymore, but now its like the muscles on my collarbone are over developed. its gives the appearance of a shorter neck and make my shoulders kind of look triangular. i think if i could make my shoulders look more square i could balance this out, but am not sure how.

celine,
If your body fat % is higher than 14-to-20% you can lose fat with a weight loss plan to make slimmer arms

Ejay,
Your shoulders are usually mainly muscle so weight loss really isnt an option - your best way to get less broad shoulders is to not do any exercises for them or be less active with your shoulder muscles to allow them to shrink or atrophy from non-use

Hi Adrian!
I trained in gymnastics for 13 years and have very broad shoulders. However, I am 95lbs and have skinny arms. Is it possible to make shoulders less broad without having to lose weight on my arms?

Mari,
You can avoid shoulder exercises and depending on how much you weight - you can lose more weight to make shoulders look slimmer

Hi- I am not overweight. I am 5'7" and an athletic 135 pounds.
I have broad shoulders naturally and like to swim. Problem is...I am starting to look so bulky.
How can I make my shoulders less broad? Should I stop swimming? If I do, what cardio can I do that wont make me so broad? Do you recommend the cross train elliptical? If so, what level resistance?
thanks!

Yvonne,
jogging and kickboxing will help you lose fat from all over your body including arms & shoulders but basically...
You need to go on a weight loss diet & exercise plan & lose fat to get slimmer arms

Hi Bryan, I have gained like 6pounds and I am trying hard to lose them. Though i am a female at the age of 26, I tend to gain muscle mass and bulk up easily If i uses weight. My main concern is my shoulders and my arms. I realised that my shoulders and deltoid have gotten fatter and broader. Why is this so? Is there any solution to slim down my arms, deltoid and shoulders without bulkin up? Does jogging and kickboxing help?

zenah,
Toning will only make your arms look smaller and to make them smaller - you need to lose overall body & arm fat.

Royston,
Forget about shoulder circles since they are only for firming up your shoulders and...
Just stick to 5-to-10 reps of 5-to-10 sets of handstand push-ups using your bodyweight and hopefully,
By the end of next week - I'll have a better Handstand video posted

Thank you Adrian. I have tried the shoulder circles yesterday evening.
As for the handstand push-ups, what the number of reps and sets to be done? I feel that i can do 3 sets of 20reps for both eleveated and handstand push-ups.

Tara,
As far as shoulders go - I DON'T think there's a big chance of you getting lots of loose skin in that area anyway but to calm your fears...
You can start toning now with "lighter" weights and only doing 2 sets of 8-to-12 reps of shoulder exercises and...
If you're on a weight loss diet - it's going to be hard to gain muscle or get buff no matter what you do.

So when would I start to tone then? I dont want to end up with lots of extra flabby skin either. Thank you for your help by the way

Tara,
the best thing it seems to me like you can do is lay off weights and keep losing weight because in your case...
as your losing overall body fat your arm & shoulder area will look slimmer

Samira,
There really isn't anything you can do to make you shoulders look less broad except for lose weight or FAT in that area but I think with you - your shoulders are probably mostly muscle and another way to make your shoulders less broad is to simply not train them at all so your shoulder muscles will shrink or atrophy some.

Thanks so much for these exercise techniques...They work great except....My shoulders are already broad. What exercises can I do to tone my arms, but not broaden or sculpt my shoulders any more than they already are? Or are there any exercises to make my shoulders look less broad? Thanks in advance.

Demetria,
If your goal is to just lose weight - then NO but...
I'd rather you use weights to maintain your muscles, to maintain your metabolism and to also look better after losing weight - you see...
Adding muscle increases your metabolism by helping you burn 5-to-20 more calories a day.
If your goal is bodyshaping, toning or firming up then YES -YOU do need weights or some type of manly cardio to firm up

I am so glad I discovered your site. Thank you so much for this....it is simply awesome. My question is, do I have to use weights and can you tell me what the benefit is from using them. Thanks you in advance.
