Murphy's law of grilling dictates that your gas will run out near the biginning or in the middle of whatevery you really need to cook... never at the end.

To avoid exactly the scenario you described, I had the gas company run a line out to the garden near where my BBQ resides. I now grill year 'round without having to worry about whether I have enough gas to finish the job!
