That model is different than what most on the left believe. They believe you become involved with a political action, then another and another, until you become an activist.
Most on the left and right, seem to be in the moment, without long term political plans, let alone strategies. They react like everything is a new experience.
The Socialism that has returned is not socialism for the people, but socialism for corporations via the Geithner-Summers-Paulson endless bailouts. Newsweek just wanted to sell magazines by running that cover.

The article goes on to say: "Those who extolled the virtue of small government and free markets are now spending billions of dollars of taxpayers' money to intervene in the economy. They are even nationalizing banks. The captains of industry, the best and the brightest with their multi-million dollar bonuses, have driven the largest banks, corporations, and the entire economy into the ground. I have an 80 year old aunt that belongs to a Calvary Chapel style church - you're typical conservative fundamentalist brand. She's grown ever more conservative the more time she spends with those people.
Last time I saw her she was complaining that Obama is turning the country socialist (as if). So I asked her why she criticizes socialism when she benefits from it every day through Medicare and Social Security. She just shrugged.
Forget Grandma, the battle is for the hearts and minds of young people ( future workers) If they can resist cynicism they will reject the status quo. Our spectacle outside the highschool planted seeds.

As for Pete Seeger's birthday concert, I've just put up a letter describing how the state department kept a premiere, invited guest from participating in this event.
I also notified Ron Kuby, host of Air America's "Doing Time" about this. He'd raved about the show, to which he'd taken his wife as her birthday gift. For all that RC is supposedly a leftist, he's ignorant of so much. He didn't know about this sort of thing -- it wasn't mentioned at the show. He had no idea that Cuban artists and intellectuals are forbidden to come here. So he talked about this yesterday, after I sent him the information.
