Strangling North Dakota with no mercy
Ronit Elkabetz is a great actress. She also starred in "Late Marriage" and "Or Mon trésor", two of the best Israeli films ever made.
"The Band's Visit" isn't quite in the same league, but it's still a memorable, low-key effort.
The movie could have very easily been too cute. Kolirin was walking a fine line and, at least I believe, kept the movie grounded in reality.
I had never heard of Ronit Elkabetz before and when I looked her up I saw ravings about those two films you mention Sonia. I'll have to see If i can find them.
I met the director of that movie at a screening. He was a very nice guy. He shrugged off overly academic questions about the movie.
The film industry is new to Israel. The actors in cinema, come from the stage.
