Instead of back an occupation that would no doubt kill tens of thousands, displace millions and further extremism, why not praise the stability brought by the ICU and encourage talks between them and the TFG?
I have a better idea. How about not meddling in the affairs of Somalia at all, UNLESS Somalia establishes a totalitarian regime, starts a war with Kenya, then invades Djibouti, and then uses poison gas to exterminate an ethnic minority group.
Of course, if the Somali government did that, and US troops would intervene to topple such a totalitarian regime, all the leftist pacifists would march around the world to denounce the US action (like they did in 2003 in case of Iraq).
However, when Ethiopia invaded, there were no protests at all....

The US claims to be fighting terrorism, I was offering my opinion on a more productive way to do so. Unfortunately, as I mentioned, I don't think limiting terrorism is the number one goal.
I've been to several anti-war demonstrations that have Somali speakers protesting Ethiopia's actions. We have one this weekend in St. Paul.

Sonia, It still surprises you that people might be suspect about "humanitarian intervention" from the US. Perhaps it is because it so often comes in the form of thousand pound bombs.

There was opposition to Ethiopia's intervention in Somalia. It was particularly suspect, since there was no threat to Somaliland.
Why even bring up Somalis invading Kenya? Somalia is barely a nation state.
