Through this blog, I feel I know Fargo. Your current difficulties have hit the news over here too.
With economic democracy comes greater social solidarity. During times of crisis, without the economic imperative, people resort to their natural (non-competitive) instincts
and see that the greater good comes first.
Hope all your friends/family are well and that disaster is averted.

Millions of sandbags filled in 5 days.
I just wish though, that these same people wouldn't congratulate themselves for their superiority to the 'lazy, lay-around people in New Orleans who didn't bother to sandbag.'
Um, they didn't know a flood was coming, did they. Whereas people in Fargo, thanks to the NOAA knew a flood was coming for months ahead of time.
So why do they still build their pricey homes and put up their country clubs and golf courses right down there on the lowest part of the RR flood plain?
I had friends and relatives who had to evacute their neighborhoods in Fargo-Moorehead. And they sandbagged even when some of them lost their homes.
But I will not allow them to say they are better, superior and more holy than people in New Orleans, without protest.

Yeah, a hurricane isn't the same as a flood. I've seen a little of the "we're better than they are" attitude, but it usually gets shot done quite quick. There's no comparison.
This is the first time I,ve responded to your blog. I feel bad for the people of Fargo-Moorhead. It was good to see them work together to save their cities. I wish that same co-operative spirit could be used in the state budgets and economy. I'm worried when it comes time to build new dikes, etc., politicians like Gov. Pinch-Penny won't be willing to pay for it.
