Excel the best software ever?
For accountants, maybe. But what about the rest of us?

No!! Not just accountants! Excel can do great stuff for any normal non-geeky punter. I've designed spreadsheets that do everything from telling you which TV program you need to watch, to tracking production processses via statistical process control, to creating silly games. And you would never guess you were using Excel. The only thing you can't do with it is create stand-alone executables.
Oh, I just love working with it.
I'll get my coat...

Am I right in reading that the "Express" versions of these software are free?
If so what's the limitations of them?

Thay are free, but they're currently version 2 betas, although unrestricted download betas. They'll stop workingwhen the final release goes to manufacturing, I think. I'm not aware of any restrictions in functionality although I've not tried to build any exes yet. I think the plan is for the final release Express versions to be very much cheaper than the full Visual Studio products but with virtually full functionality. Mr Gates would like to see the entire world programming with his products.... But then, they are very fne products.
