Gravatar I haven't read them. I shall now.

Gravatar I read and was very moved by the post on first Mrs R. I don't think you should ever take the number of comments to mean anything. I once complained that when I bared my soul, no-one answered, but when I talked about pain au chocolat I got a flurry of comments. Someone replied that there are some posts that you read, but don't feel able to add anything to. Whereas accessible subjects are much easier.

Oh, and I am now reading in bloglines, which means you can't see I'm there. But I am.

Gravatar I agree with Petite's spin on things. I enjoy reading it but really don't have anything to say about it.

Gravatar I came by last night and read the two previous posts but felt so brain-dead-tired I couldn't find anything sensible to say, sorry. I agree with what petite says about the comment count - when you write something very heartfelt and close to home, it can be difficult for a commenter to add anything, just because they don't want to say the wrong thing, and the quality of the post demands an intelligent response.

I think your only gauge of "appropriateness" of a post - if it's about real people - is whether it's honest and whether they are okay about it. I think it's good that you write about real things, because, as you say, other people are going through similar situations. It can help a lot to know you're not alone. Blogs can be so personal, while still being anonymous, I think it's the ideal medium for sharing stories like yours. Keep going, I say. Your posts have been really gutsy.

Gravatar It's your blog. Write what you want to ... that's what I say.

I think someone should do a study of posts that attract the largest number of comments. Should tell us something about blogology ... or whatever!

BTW, I haven't been by for a while because our Web Marshal at work suddenly took a dislike to your URL ... don't ask! I did suggest that we should call the sherrif to shoot the Marshal .. but ITsupport don't have a sense of humour! They think I'm mad .... hahahahaha

Gravatar Thanks everyone. Much thanks. I think I wrote in comment on one of the earlier Mr R pieces more or less what I felt about my doubts, so won't repeat them here. But I feel encouraged to go on... even with difficult things!
Thank goodness, Omykiss, I don't have a Web Marshall to contend with - maybe he through grannyp was/is some kind of porn site. (There is such a thing, believe it or not... innocent gp didn't discover that till too late....) Anyway, good to see you back.

Gravatar Actually Haloscan seems to have eaten that comment; so here goes again. Writers do have this tendency to chomp up their nearest and dearest in the most carnivorous way and turn them into 'material.' Some - even the nicest people! - do it without conscience, or at least consciously. Some like me agonise about it somewhat but do it anyway in the end. Then afterwards wish they hadn't. But What do we have but our lives? And anyway, there's this bizarre thing that some people are almost offended if you dont, and/or see themselves in the most unlikely places. Also sometimes you find yourself writing more than you know. (I made up a whole fictional life once for someone whose permission I had to use him in a general way. Unfortunately I turned out to have invented his actual life... Creepy that.)

Autobiography of course is something else. Some things in my family I would protect to the nth degree. Others - yes - like this, it's worth being honest about. Even if the doubts set in at times.

Thanks for all of this,

As for commentology, yes. It's the weirdest of weird businesses. Anyone been over to Deirdre's site recently? (Plodplodplod etc) Oh wow. And her commenters have a whole lot of thoughts on this,

Gravatar My experience on Blogger and elsewhere is that comments come to a) very short pieces & b) very stupid pieces .(I specialise in short, stupid pieces so I know...)

Gravatar Love the self-portrait. Will take your advice - get the parrot to write my blog. (it's even a dead parrot.)

Actually you being stupid - as you call it - is fun...Yeah and I appreciate the shortness too. Welcome. And cheers
