I've kept chickens for a few years now and have never kept a cockeral. Have been warned many times about my foolishness but I've never had a problem with my girls beating each other up, or changing sex.
I DID have a chicken that changed into a (sort of) male recently and I'm sorry to say that the girls chicked her/him out and she/he lives in the orchard with the pigs now.
Hope you're having a lovely trip. Smell some primroses for me.

Ah, the wonders of the English spring: primroses and bluebells, fluffy little lambs gambolling around in verdant fields, blossom on the fruit trees... and torrential rainstorms. Today, anyway. Hope you've packed your brolly!

No comment re Mrs Thatcher. My blood pressure won't allow it.
You have a lovely blog, GrannyP. I hope you can keep posting while you're over there (here). But don't worry if not - it'll give me a chance to catch up on the posts I haven't found time to read...

I can see Margaret Thatcher as a tough old chook, but a rooster?? Love it!
Hope you have a great time back in England.
