Ah. But he DID start to seem more jovial and charming once Mrs T came on the scene, didn't he?
Not sure he was ever exactly jovial - on the other hand I do know of a string of left-wing Oxford academics, who after they'd had heavy experience of him and Roy Jenkins both before the election for university chancellor voted for Ted... so maybe. (Didn't he looked much prettier in his thinner years?)
