Gravatar A couple of thoughts: I never read Euell Gibbons, but I remember him from his commercials for Post Grape-Nuts. In one he said: "Ever eat a pine tree? Many parts *are* edible." He was quite famous for a while. I remember a bumper sticker that quipped "Save Our Forests: Extract Euell Gibbons' Teeth."

Anyway it was great to read about his more profound side.

About vegetarianism. I've been quasi-veg for a long time. I eat fish maybe once every couple of weeks and chicken maybe a tad more often, but rarely more than a few ounces of meat a week.

It suits me, and it's open to you if you wish. Nothing binds you. I've just noticed that many American Buddhist types can be rather legalistic here, much more so than their Eastern brethren. Food (pun) for thought?
