From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
According to Sigmund Freud ,projection is a psychological defense mechanism whereby one "projects" one's own undesirable thoughts, motivations, desires, and feelings onto someone else. It is a common process that every person uses to some degree. [3]
To understand the process, consider a person in a couple who has thoughts of infidelity . Instead of dealing with these undesirable thoughts consciously, he or she subconsciously projects these feelings onto the other person, and begins to think that the other has thoughts of infidelity and may be having an affair. In this sense, projection is related to denial , arguably the only defense mechanism that is more primitive than projection. Those who project deny a part of themselves that may otherwise come to the surface. In this case, they cannot face their own feelings of infidelity and therefore project them onto the other person.
"Projection is the opposite defense mechanism to identification. We project our own unpleasant feelings onto someone else and blame them for having thoughts that we really have."
"A defense mechanism in which the individual attributes to other people impulses and traits that he himself has but cannot accept. It is especially likely to occur when the person lacks insight into his own impulses and traits."
"Attributing one's own undesirable traits to other people or agencies."
"The individual perceives in others the motive he denies having himself. Thus the cheat is sure that everyone else is dishonest."
"People attribute their own undesirable traits onto others."
"An individual who possesses malicious characteristics, but who is unwilling to perceive himself as an antagonist, convinces himself that his opponent feels and would act the same way."

Sorry, but Sally Kern is not a victim.
Really, when you accuse a group of people of being worse than terrorist and making claims that "they are trying to indoctrinate two-year-olds," you really shouldn't be crying foul when some folks respond.
And I might point out that it has not been determined that she received death threats.
The real question here is can a religious objection to homosexuality be an excuse to make incorrect and unfair judgements on an entire group of people?

clearly the author of this blog is living in distorted episode of Will & Grace. "Tolerance" doesn't mean that you tolerate hate. When someone spews hate and stupidity, you don't just look away, you counteract it with truth. Sometimes you have to state that truth loudly to get it through their thick skulls. That isn't intolerance and it's not anything to do with a mafia.
The Christian Right are adept at crying "Persecution!" whenever they feel like one of their sacrosanct "rights" has been violated by another special interest group, and yet they vomit up lies and hatred for anyone who is not like them, Muslims, Gays, "liberals," etc., and attempt to tar them all with the same brush.
Remember all the death threats the Dixie Chicks got? I didn't hear anyone talking about the "Christian Mafia" at that time.

Uh, "indoctrination of the homosexual lifestyle on our children"? Are you kidding me?!
Yes, legally, she should have the right to express any opinion she wants, no matter how small-minded I may think she's being. But it would be nice if they would use actual facts. Like her little gem quote in the piece "Studies show no society that has totally embraced homosexuality has lasted, you know, more than a few decades."
I guess ancient Greece doesn't count?

LOL. Listen, the kids ARE being indoctrinated in public schools - mom and dad are out, baby. My kids - who are homeschooled as you know - know about gays and really could care less what people choose to do in the privacy of their own homes. I definitely don't think it's appropriate to shove two mommies or two daddies down a kindergartners throat. It's just stupid. If Christians believe that homosexuality is not a desirable thing, they certainly have the right to believe that and express that opinion openly.
I've also noticed that peace-lovers of all stripes seem to be quite violent.

Ms. Kern's comments underline a nasty sense of entitlement. True she is a Christian but she did more than simply express her disbelief of homosexuality (and Islam for the matter). She made ugly and unsubstantiated charges against groups of people she probably felt superior to because of her "faith."
And that comment in the last post about homosexuality being what people do in the privacy of their own homes further accentuates that nasty entitlement. It always amazes me that people who are not gay can tell gay people what their lives encompass. It always gets me that people omit important parts of gay lives (i.e. raising children, contributing to society) because they want to focus on what they think is the sexual aspect of homosexuality.
And when gays try to set the record straight, all of the sudden, they are accused of "indoctrinating" people.

First of all, I refuse to believe that the AP would make up the fact that Sally Kern has received death threats. Rick Santorum, another politician who dared to voice his OPINION against the homosexual lifestyle, also received plenty of death threats before and after he was bullied from his office by so-called "gay activists".
Secondly, most children already know that gays exist. Mrs. Kern doesnt want an alternative lifestyle that conflicts with her religious views forced on kids in public institutions. Sexuality of any kind isn't something that kids are capable of understanding, much less same-sex relationships.
And how exactly is Mrs. Kern making "unfair and incorrect" judgments? Did she condemn all the gays to hell? Is she forcing her views on people who don't agree with her? Where exactly is her "sense of entitlement"? I'm against the death penalty, does that mean that I'm better than people who are for it? Your logic makes no sense to me, than too the fact that it's puzzling to me why homosexuals have a right to express their opinion and Christians do not. If one is allowed to speak the other groups must also have that right.

Nice use of leftwing talking points and sorry but I've never seen an episode of "Will & Grace"--guess that means that I hate gays too, right? It's always funny to me when people lower themselves to name-calling those that they disagree with. And where exactly is your proof that Sally Kern hates gays? A Christian stands up for what she believes in and people like you get all bent out of shape? I don't see the "tolerance" in that.
As for the Dixie Chicks, they deserved every bit of the angst thrown at them for dissing President Bush overseas, if they had any real guts they would've done it here, in the U.S. of A. Funny too how I've never heard of them telling conservatives and/or Republicans not to buy their records.

Mr. Grey Ghost,
This link from a newspaper IN Oklahoma confirms what I said about the death threats - http://www.tulsaworld.com/news/
a..._A13_hThey04584
Also, Mr. Santorum was fairly defeated in an election, by a wide margin I might add. He wasn't driven from office by anyone but his constituents.
No one said that Ms. Kern does not have the right to express her opinion (and its funny that those defending her omit this) - but she did say unfair and incorrect information regarding gays. Indoctrinating two-year-olds? Come on. Where is that in the Bible?
And futhermore, it goes beyond just her OPINION. Ms. Kern is an elected official who votes on matters regarding people in Oklahoma, some whom are gays and lesbians. If she thinks they are worse than terrorists, then do really think she will vote in their best interests? I don't think so.
You mentioned "public institutions." That is the very point about entitlement. Those "public institutiions" are also for same-sex families. Sally Kern is an elected official whose priority to help all families, not just the ones she feels fit up to her "moral standard." You see that is where the unfair sense of entitlement comes from.

I don't see any "sense of entitlement" in professing something that you disagree with and the idea that someone sending an stating "you should die" shouldn't be considered a death threat is ridiculous.
As for your other claims: don't like a politician? well, exercise you right to vote and vote for someone else. And what's "unfair and incorrect" in your book, doesn't change the fact that Christian parents, via responsibility for their child as well as having paid taxes, have the right to stand up if they are offended by certain curricula and policies in the public schools. One could argue that children need to learn to think for themselves, which they do, once they reach a certain age. In the primary years, they need to learn how to think - not what to think.

lol...and isn't it ironic that the so-called verbal witchhunt and lynching that the Dixie Chicks received is now being felt by Mrs. Kern and her family (esp. her son who the Left is harassing and calling gay, tho he's straight).

I live in Oklahoma and there is a large majority of Oklahomans that are supporting her. She has the right to her opinion and the right to voice it. It is funny that no liberal has an issue with the offensive things that the left says. They claim freedom of speech for everybody but a conservative. If a conservative says anything it gets labelled as hate speech and they try to get laws passed to shut us up. They are not afraid to say hateful things about Christians because Christians do not make death threats against liberals. The libs are the ones that are making all the death threats. Hey, want to talk about hate speech? Look at the hatred the leftinistras are spewing. That is hate.
