Great actresses to me can not only play a variety of roles, but "lose themselves" in each role they play. Besides "Silence of the Lambs" I cant think of anything Foster has done that has stood out for me, but then that's my opinion which you seem to love since you come by here so much. Then too, I guess none us are movie experts like you.

The clues have been there for years: she's never been known to have a boyfriend and she's never been open about how her two sons came to be. The irony here is much pressure she's gotten from the gay community to not only "come out", but to be a gay activist. To her credit, she's never been interested.

As for "Taxi Drvier", Foster was only in it for 10 to 15 minutes and any idiot could tell that that's enough screen time to warrant an Oscar nomination, plus I just think her playing a prostitute wasnt a big deal. As for an Academy that's only given Pacino one win in his lifetime and only two to DeNiro, I guess I just don't take their "expertise" as seriously as you do.

I consider myself to be a plethora of info on pop culture (whether thats a good thing or not, I'm not sure 
) but I had no clue about this. I actually found out about this on someone else's blog. I'm not sure how I missed this one.
To me it explains some of her "issues". I do think she is a good actress but I agree with you GG that I can't think of anything good that she has done in a long time.
Yeah, Jodie's been gay for most of her life. I'm still crazy about her, though.
I think she's a pretty good actress, and I think she regrets not doing Hannibal.
Apparently, she thought it was too violent, which is why she passed on the role. So they gave it to Julianne Moore, and she knocked it out of the park.
Overrated? Maybe. She's a great actress, but has made some dreadful movies. She's very inconsistent in terms of the "hits" like Silence of the Lambs, but the roles are very consistent, and seem to mirror her lifestyle: single woman or single mom, no male love interest, or few where the guy actually sticks around, although she has never portrayed a gay character that I know of.
Hollywood has known of her homosexuality for a long time, but has respected her privacy because she doesn't trash her fellow actors and filmmakers, and because she can still open a picture.
