I can't imagine that the shape of the back would be of any benefit (but then I am not a classical guitarist), and I wonder if the bending of the top would have any adverse effects on the vibrations of the spruce top and therefore the resultant sound.

for the acoustic side effects, I can't tell 100% but since the sound mostly react to the direction of the wood fibers, I don't see why there would be interference.
and for the beveling of the back, it's for sure more comfortable - you can look at the classical guitar playing position here > http://www.makingmusicmag.com/

I've seen the the top beveled off a little before and that makes sense to just stopping the top digging into your arm. Especially on jumbo guitars.(Stratocasters hardly need it)

But as for the back how many people do you know who hold there guitar the classical way?

Gotta wonder if that's carved that way, or perhaps steam bent...
Either way, very clean, very nice.
Good post, Bertram!

all classical guitar players play guitar in the classical guitar position - there's no real choice - also most flamenco and gypsy players...
the model I presented is with nylon strings - typically for classical guitar - but there's also a metal string model, and they both exist as electro-acoustic.
I think it's steam bent - like the sides!

I still can't believe that the top would be able to vibrate as freely as it should with that bent section.
You have to think of the top as acting like a drum skin. You don't see drums with bent skins, do you?

I think you are thinking about this wrong. Think of it more as the place of the bend being edge of the top and the bent area itself as being part of the sides. It's more of a change in the shape of the top than a bend in the top. The bend itself will act as any of the other edges of the top. The real question will be how it is braced in that area.
