Perhaps a dulcimer of some kind? Like the kind you play on your lap. (Appalachian/mountain dulcimer)

the curve on the top of a regular acoustic guitar is just useless - so it's like on the Ovation Breadwinner... less volume, less weight, more travel!

You can't compare this horrible creation to a thing of beauty like the Ovation Breadwinner. The Breadwinner was designed whereas this looks like it was arrived at by accident.

I can't see that the shape makes it any more compact. Sorry.
