Gravatar Being from down south in the U.S. of A., Firebirds mean Johnny Winter and Lynyrd Skynyrd - when I see one, I expect some southern boogie to be oozin' out of it.

For some yankees (not "yanks", that's different), that's an unfortunate association, but I sure love it.

I feel like Clapton played one for a while, but I can't say that's definite. Anyway, Cream played a little bit of boogie now and then, so that's alright.

I will admit, I like the idea of associating a Firebird with Polly Jean, too. What a great guitar.

Gravatar BBC4 showed some footage the other night of Johnny Winter playing a Firebird. He and his band were performing Jumpin' Jack Flash - what a fantastic version!

Gravatar Wow that firebird is just stunning. I have always dreamed of having a Gibson Firebird, despite being a tele-boy LOL...

Great Blog,

Mickey

Gravatar WOW thats definitely out there, i havent seen, or even heard of one of those axe guitars before. Good stuff.

Gravatar Don't get hung up with the associations with artists it has great looks and the most technicaly perfect headstock! The low (pitched) strings are the longest to add needed tension and highest the shortest just like on a left handed Fender(like Jm Hnx) yup the exact opposite of a right handed! But bcz of the banjo tuners you can get to the pegs easily!
One Gibson I would like to own.
