Holy cow. Could this possibly be irony?

I should have added that 98 percent of attorneys also have no sense of humor when it comes to their own..... :o)

Yeah, it's that 98% that ruins it for the rest of us.

Brian:
It's always hard to know when someone's tongue-is-in-cheek. Thanks for taking my trashing of your post in stride and thanks for visiting. I actually enjoyed your sarcasm.

I thought Brian's post was great. I laughed while also (as a non attorney) remembering the countless times I have spent talking to a paralegal who claims to speak directly for my high paid lawyer whom I rarely see and takes forever to return a call. If you can't see the immediate irony/humor with a hint of truth, Mr. Gustitis, then I must wonder out loud how many clients YOU have. To steal another line from the Godfather, "this is the life you have chosen" and you are equally loved and hated.

Thanks for stopping by. After reflection and some "off-line" chats with Brian, himself, his humor became obvious. I also hope you saw the humor in my response to his post.
If I read Brian correctly, he has only one client, but needs only one. Rank-and-file lawyers like me, on the other hand, must continually bring in new clients all the time and treat the ones we have with great care so our reputation within the potential client pool remands sound. I don't think Brian needs to worry about his reputation, necessarily, as long as he gets the job done. Luckily, my sense of humor has nothing to do with getting clients in the door, but the way I respond to their individual needs does. I take every call, I answer every question. My paralegal never speaks for me. Although this is the life I've chosen, I hope to be loved more than I am hated. Again, thanks for your comments.

If you look at my blog as a whole, I am pretty much all over the board. In fact, law related posts are in the minority.

You sir are in the minority and are obviously one of the lawyers who do care.

I think there are more caring lawyers than you think. I regret you have not met more of them.

I've had occasion to hire more than my fair share of attorneys. With the exception of one, they were only interested in getting as much money from me as possible before telling me there was nothing more they could do.
It is my understanding that the number one complaint to state bars is that clients are unable to get in contact with their attorneys. That doesn't necessarily correlate to "most" attorneys being guilty, but it seems there is plenty of room for improvement.
When I read the piece, I didn't see the humor because that has been my experience. meh

It is very regrettable so many people's experience mirrors your own. Without doubt, lawyers have much room to improve regarding client communication and just plain old common courtesy. A change in practice only comes after a change in attitude, and until the lawyers re-tool their attitudes about how they treat clients, not much will change. I was always taught that clients were like gold and to treat them as such. I thank you for visiting and making a comment.
