Steven,
Great series on the I5000. It's a service to the public. Defense lawyers need to expose these machines and educate the public about their limitations.

What if you are running a fever?

Arnie: If you are running a fever your core body temperature exceeds the anticipated 37 degrees C (or 98.6 F). If your core body temperature is higher than normal, then your breath temperature will be higher than expected by the intoxilyzer (ie, 34 degrees C). When your breath temperature is higher than anticipated by the Intoxilyzer, the machine will overestimate the amount of ethanol in the breath. It really is that simple.

But wait, your blood will be 98.6 and the inside walls of your lungs will be close to 98.6 and, depending on how long the air in in your lungs it might be nearly 98.6.
If alcohol escapes out of your blood into the exhaled air then I wonder if you could sober up faster by hyperventilating?

Yon: I believe you would sober up faster if you had a fever. The higher the temperature, the more alcohol will evaporate into the air space in the lungs.
