You say, "Compromise leads to some other problems and the primary one is the loss of political integrity." I have always found compromise to bring about favorable conditions that promote better functioning, and is a trait that has merit. I wonder why this doesn't work well in politics.

Compromise is good sometimes but not all the time. An example is Reagan's willingness to compromise on the budget to get congress to rebuild the military. The military needed rebuilding and there were sufficient funds to do so but congress wanted the pork to take home and couldn't rebuild the military and keep the pork. Ronnie gave them the pork..a compromise that not only cost the taxpayers but in later years used by the left wing to claim that Reagan was responisble for a tremndous increase i the netional debt..he was..as the result of comproming. Bubba's Daddy compromised with the left wing and agreed to sign off on a tax hike..which was then used against him by the left wing..if he had stuck by his guns and not have compromised his integrity he might have got a second term, and we wouldn't have hummer Clinton to talk about today.

Jimmy Carter along with George Bush the second is in the top ten of the worst but carter wasn't so much as a crook as just inept and he has done more damage to the country after leaving office than he did in office.
