Yep I've been through it too. Then once you get into the business office they want to talk insurance, gap, life, extended warantee, make ready fees, car wash packages etc and the dickering starts all over again.

I guess it's called dickering because at the end someone usually gets dicked.

Some advise when you are planning on buying a vehicle from a dealership....do your homework...you can get the invoice on line that will tell you what it cost the dealer...more or less...you can't get the dealer holdback on line but if you have the invoice which is what the banks go by for financing you have a place to start. And then call your bank and get the finance value of your trade in...and that is what you can expect to get at least on your trade-in. And, if you are financing through a credit union expect to buy a 100 bucks over invoice. The house will make their money on GAP, croak and choke (death and diability) extended warranties and such...I financed via my credit union and bought the GAP and told them to stick the rest up their ass. The dickering was on the trade which they tried to steal...we were in fact 2000 dollars off on the trade...but I got what I wanted and figued I could.

Thing is you gotta be tougher than them...sweetthing allows she thought I was gonna cold cock the sales manager..but I told her it was just an act..he was acting and so was I but I won. Good Deal? A good deal is when both the seller and buyer are satisfied and I don't buy unless I am satisfied with the deal...and the seller damn sure ain't gonna lose any money or they couldn't stay in business.
