That's a good idea, but I think he means more mercenary the privateer since privateers were basically just legal pirates. They made money by attacking enemy shops and often would make additional money by selling the ships they captured or the cargo they carried just like the pirates did, some times they had permission from their government to do so, often they didn't. |

I don't believe that using privateers to combat piracy is all that bad of an idea. They may be just authorized pirates, but some say that soldiers are just authorized mercenaries. Actually, armies originally were composed of mercenaries. Sometimes when you fight fires you have to use fire. |
