I was disappointed that they had voiceovers for all the deaf characters. Subtitles would have been much more effective. I say this as someone who watches tv with closed captioning on all of the time. It especially bugged me to hear a voice that was not Marlee's when she was signing, as I know her voice! But it was a good movie. I also couldn't figure out why the boy wasn't giving any input into whether or not he wanted a CI.
Oh, and did you see the little ad for the old Hallmark movie about the deaf couple with a hearing child (played as a young adult by Mare Winningham)? I totally remember watching that one! The mom in that film was the grandmother in this one. She has to be one of the most experienced deaf actresses around.

Honestly I was very mad at the father in the movie! I understand that he knew his wife's feelings about the matter...but to go behind her back and schedule the appointments without talking to her first was just WRONG! I really didn't see this movie as being about if the boy should have the CI...it was more about the break down of the marriage because the father was selfishly wanting his son to hear. Of course I think the deaf grandfather was over the top too...he seemed upset by the thought that his grandson might hear.
I totally think that the boy should have been consulted.
I don't see anything wrong either way.

I watched the movie but felt that it was "unfinished." There are two sides to every story and Hallmark probably didn't want to cross the line over something so controversial.
I watched "August Rush" again over the weekend! It is such a great movie!
Thanks for the reminder to wear green!
Hugs!

Hey babe, I watched the Hallmark movie and definitely could relate to it because of our time together. Gotcha all prayed up.

I missed the movie and will be looking for it in reruns or maybe rent it. Not sure I want to rush out and buy it without having seen it for myself first. I hope you mammogram goes painless and shows no surprises. Of all the dreaded "female tests" we go through, this one bothers me the least! As long as you don't have "tender morsels" going into it, you should be fine! I hope you have a great summer with your kids.

I wondered what you thought about that movie. I did not watch the whole thing because I was so tired and needed to get into bed. I had a time wondering why the mother would not let her son hear...just did not make sense to me.
i have heard that August Rush is good too. i have it ordered on netflix.
You will be okay with that bad big machine...I have endured that thing for years now. You should have seen the way they did it when I first started!! It has came a long way...
