Epistles from the Apostles

Gravatar He tries to persuade us that, for ethical reasons, those who blog under their own name have more 'gravitas' than those who use a pseudonym

Textbook demonstration of the ad hominem fallacy. It bears absolutely no relevance to the substance of an idea whether the individual propounding it uses their real name or an assumed name. The truth value of the statement "The Battle of Hastings took place in 1066" remains constant regardless of whether it is uttered by "niceperson" or "Iain Hall."

The flipside of Iain's approach, of course, is that he would consider it acceptable to treat with contempt people who blog under pseudonyms, simply because of the fact that they blog under pseudonyms.

Iain's embrace of ad hominem reasoning also causes him to misread criticism of his ideas as attacks on his person, hence his tendency to respond "in kind" with ad hominems (whether irrelevant and abusive or just irrelevant).

I think much of this nastiness would dissipate if Iain abandoned ad hominem reasoning, recognising its fallacious nature.

Even more would dissipate if he didn't so eagerly allow his comments sections to degenerate into kindergarten slanging matches--the so-called (by Iain) "cut-and-thrust of debate," which in actuality contributes nothing to debate.

Gravatar Yeah, I think he tends to personalise every argument. I think he would argue, for instance, that unless you have children, you can't make any statement contrary to his on family life.
By the same logic, we can't make any statements about deaf-mute Swedish midgets, as we aren't one of those either.

Gravatar Well, in that particular case he's making a fallacious appeal to authority (namely his own). As many a victim of domestic abuse can attest, simply being in possession of a partner and children does not make someone an "expert" on family life.

Gravatar I don't know. The Gospel of St;; Iain carries a certain authoritative weight.

Gravatar And remember - he's an expert on the economy because he balances the family budget.

Gravatar BTW that picture never stops being funny.

Gravatar What's all this then ?

Scrotewatch is missing in action ? I head in for my daily giggle this morning, looking for conservative hijinks, and the link is gone! No clues at ;;;; Headquarters, and the blog seems to be password protected.

Well, that takes all the fun out of it. I loved reading that blog.
Such laughs!

Wonder what the little scamp is up to now....

Gravatar Really Liv that has been trotted out as an excuse for the very poor attendance of indigenous children for as long as I can remember but it ignores the fact that no indigenous parent ever had to worry the compulsion too sent children to school being enforced and that lack of enforcement was as much the problem as any substance abuse or “racism” and why was it never enforced? political correctness has to be up there in prime position.

Gravatar Here is Iain Hall pretending to be The Editor, according to that Scrote;Watch site you linked to:

"Anyway, touched a 15 year and 10 month old girl ’s breasts with her consent, . But now, in the climate of fear over pedophilia this “outstanding teacher”, as described by his principal, staff and students, has lost his job and had his career, and probably life, destroyed."

Incredible! What a hypocrite!

Gravatar Truly shameful stuff from Hall, the master of gutter blogging.

Gravatar ;;;; seems to be in retreat. Scrotewatch has been dragged, as has that silly "bloging" one. Iain has emailed me in the past, politely and about nothing of any consequence, so I actually emailed him a couple of days back to ask what was happening. Scrotewatch amused me a lot, a humorous diversion. No reply. Can't bring myself to actually comment on his blog, though, so guess I'll just wait and see.

John, thanks for pointing out that fake Ed quote. I notice that the Being Nice blog has been pulled from the public eye, too. Maybe he can concentrate on his car blog for a while, given he has been so comprehensively pwned. I'd genuinely like that to happen: I am sick of seeing his stupid comments turn up every time I want to discuss something on a blog. Yes, ;;;; is a turn off.
