Epistles from the Apostles

Gravatar Hey Hap, o/t comment but what is your take on the Kosovan declaration of independence?

Also, check out this little gem...

'John Allen, the Vatican Correspondent for the National Catholic Reporter, commenting on NPR's Morning Edition, November 29:

"On the other hand, Benedict clearly does want good working relations with Islam because, at the end of the day, the fundamental clash of civilizations that he sees in the world does not run between Islam and the West, it runs between belief and unbelief, that is, between cultures that prize religion, prize the supernatural, and those that don't. And in that regard he thinks of Muslims as his natural allies."

Gravatar Hitchens should be horsewhipped, for pushing the idea of Islamofascism. He is well aware of Trotsky's definition of fascism.

Interesting Vatican report.

Gravatar Benedict's take is understandable in Europe, where things are pretty secular. There are plenty of people in blogs or in print pushing the idea that Muslims are taking over Europe, but this idea is mainly manufactured for non-European audiences.

As for Kosovo - my short answer is, I don't know. One of the better leftist takes on the subject was recently offered by this guy:

I don't know where the workers are in all of this, if they are not being swept up in the nationalist fervour of one side or the other. Again, both Kosovars and Serbs are supported by different imperial powers (the US and Russia respectively), so it's hard to see a leftist take that could offer unequivocal support for one side or the other.
