You're misunderstanding labels now, but you're getting somewhere.
Mill is one of the fathers of 'Classical Liberalism', which is the basis of modern conservatism. Conservatives in his time were a whole different animal.

In any case, the present post was an attempt to debunk some very obvious falsehoods peddled by far-right, conspiracy-minded fools. I'm not so sure that they would consider themselves 'liberals' in any sense, even a Mill-esque one.
Whilst some current-day rightists consider themselves the heirs of liberalism, others do not.
And not all the descendants of Mill are conservatives, even if shunned by their modern classical liberal (isn't that oxymoronic?) cousins.
I'd have thought somebody like Robert Manne or David Marr would better fit the 'classic liberal' tag than the Coulter/Limbaugh-loving types who so frequently invoke it, but hey, call me a commie.
I once made the mistake of trying to debate with one of these bigots, who thought Marxism was a New Labour/Jewish/EU politically correct conspiracy. You just can't reason with them. It's like trying to argue with conspiracy theorists. They do not abide by the rules of evidence: if you offer a scientific cast iron proof refuting their views, they dismiss it as Marxist propaganda. Laughable really.
