Gravatar I agree. There is not way a page is going to shoot to the top 10 in a day. However, the internet does provide great mechanisms - PPC - to get messaging into the eye of the user.

Gravatar Handling the crisis better? What about searching out blogs and forums bashing their product and spreading this news?

I think stepping into the conversation as a company in a transparent, real, sincere way might have been a good use of a PR pro's time that day.
